I think it's more that the auto transmission in the focus is god awful compared to the competition, so no one wants to buy it.

It's a cycle that repeats itself. Gas prices go down and people buy gas guzzling cars and trucks. Gas prices rise again and people can't give away their gas guzzlers as they scramble to get something more efficient. Im covered as my ecoboost gets great mpg and is plenty powerful. Wouldn't be surprised if one day the ecoboost is the engine people seek out most due to it's efficiency.

The turbo efficiency trend has been around for a really long time in alot of foreigh performance cats like audis and bmws. Its awesome that its an option in the mustang. Idk how much longer the trend you speak of will continue. What used to be considered a "gas guzzler" is long gone. The new suburban gets like 20 combined mpgs. Lol it used to get like 7 if you were lucky and babied it.

Even though suvs get greater mpg than ever before they still have very large gas tanks which means it still can cost well over 100 dollars to fill at todays prices.

Yeah, I wasn't worried about gas prices as I live next to work. However, my wife now wants a house 30 miles away. If we purchase it would've made a lot of sense to keep my speed 3.

Knock on wood, my 2012 Focus is one of the first ones produced with the auto trans thats having the problems and I have 102000 on it trouble free. Probably time to get rid of it.

I bought Shannon right after the crazy summer of 2008 when gas was close to hitting $5/gallon. She is my first car so I sort of automatically budget to that "norm." If I'm NOT spending $500/month on gas like I was, then I consider it a win.

I bought a '14 Fiesta for my youngest daughter last year fully knowing that there's been a higher than average amount of complaints with the dual clutch automatic in the Fiesta & Focus models. Still, the vast majority have been perfectly fine. Unfortunately, the public's perception of these automatics isn't very good.

Agreed. My dad who works at a Ford dealership and he says that the buyers who optioned for the DCT are always bringing them in because they think that the transmission is broken. The shifting on those cars are just that smooth. I am a guy who want to row his own gears, but I still think it is a great shame that there is a stigma with DCTs.

I live 10 minutes from Wayne Assembly plant. My buddy works there and told me that the third shift is all low seniority, and that they were having problems with them even showing up to work. (Just what I heard) Almost all will be at another plant though.

The stigma is well deserved. The transmission in my '12 Focus sucked. So glad I dumped it for my Escape. 3 other people I know personally had the same issues I did with the transmission, along with dozens of other people I've talked to on forums. The Focus auto tranny is garbage.

It doesn't help that economical cars (more accurately the perception of economical) have purchase prices that are not far off from good cars. The value in cheap transportation vs say 435HP of fun spread out over time is dinner and drinks once a week. Plus 435HP returns 26MPG Highway. So what if you get 30MPG from a boring car, your commute sucks.

My $100 Escort used to get 40+...that was cheap transportation. That had value.

A $20K Focus that gets 30-35MPG vs a $26K Mustang that gets 25-30MPG...Americans are passionate about cars. At $3 gallon buy your coffee from Mobil instead of Starbucks and you net out the same LOL.

If you drive a car that gets 5MPG less and has a 10 gallon tank it's a difference of like $6 per fill up. I can find that much change in my ash tray.
