I bought bumper to bumper extended warranty for five years, I plan on doing the Ford Performance Tune so I don't void the warranty, but I'm here in California and want to upgrade my exhaust without voiding my warranty. What options do I have?

Ford Racing touring exhaust is 50 state legal according to the website.

I'm pretty sure that exhaust systems don't void warranty. But to be careful I'd stick with cat-backs or axle backs (I think the Ford Racing one is an axle balck). Anything that messes with the cat might void warranty but I'd be more worried about getting pulled over for noise complaints.

I'm from SoCal too and I've seen tickets given out to obnoxious exhausts. Check with the dealership to make sure but from what I've heard and seen on the interwebz, you should be okay.

Ford racing has both catbacks and axelbacks. Exhaust is really not a reason to worry about your warranty. The dealer has to make a case that your modification caused the problem for them to not fix under warranty

If you bought an additional warranty you need to read the fine print if it says something about modifications. Those extra warranties can be voided for any reason sometimes.

Anything voids warranty if they can somehow connect the problems to that specific modification. But yes read the fine print! Your best bet would be a catback as it can be taken off

The Ford Racing tune does void your factory warranty! It just comes with its own 3 year 36k mile powertrain warranty through Ford Racing. I dont know why everyone keeps forgetting this.

It voids it completely and gives a new one? I thought it just shortened your existing one.

Yeah any tune voids the factory warranty. All Ford Racing parts include their own separate warranty. Just like with the coyote and ST tunes.

It doesn't automatically void your factory warranty.

Ford racing is technically aftermarket and comes with a supplemental powertrain warranty. If there is a powertrain related issue where the tune is deemed the cause, that supplemental warranty will cover it(your factory powertrain may or may not voided at THAT point). For that supplemental warranty to be legit, the ford racing tune will need to be installed by a dealer along with proof to Ford racing of the dealer installation.

After the 3/36 term is over having the Ford racing tune is just like having any other aftermarket tune.
No tune or other mod voids you whole warranty; e.g:your radio or power seats are defective, the factory warranty will cover it regardless of how modded your car is...

Aftermarket axleback is generally accepted and is warranty safe as it does not require a tune or add power.

You are correct in that the entire warranty is not voided, but the OP mentioned he bought an additional warranty. Depending on what is written in that warranty any modification could result in the additional warranty being void.

There is a Subaru dealer near me that gives free lifetime power train warranties, but it specifically states absolutely no aftermarket parts can be used on the vehicle or the warranty is void. It might be petty, but the dealer doesn't really want to provide lifetime power train coverage, it just sounds good as a sales pitch.

I've always felt additional warranties were a rip. There's almost always something in the fine print that sucks. The money spent on one can be put in a savings account and easily pay for any mishaps outside of the factory coverage. You could get unlucky, but it's not likely. If they actually paid out often no one would sell them because they'd lose money.

I meant powertrain not the rest of the car. If you read your own response you would see that you infact contradict yourself. My car is tuned and I dont care about my warranty. The fact some people want to spread wrong information upsets me. Why would a supplemental warranty be provided unless the tune therefore voided the existing warranty. The two companies are both infact Ford. So Im sure there are reasons for this in all legality. I have spoken to Ford Racing and know the facts. However since you seem all knowing please proceed.

The warranty I bought is a Ford warranty. The mods which are a Ford exhaust and a Ford Racing tune, both dealer installed is what I'm looking at.

I don't mean to stray away from the topic, but how do you get a ford performance tune?

And to keep the topic relevant, i spoke with my dealer about adding an exhaust to my ecoboost, and the service manager told me that as long as it was a cat back or axle back that it wouldn't be a problem. He mentioned if I change the down pipe it might be a different story but even then he mentioned that if only the down pipe caused an issue is where I would find myself in hot water
