I wouldn't use the live-axle being replaced as proof that the newest gen isn't the "best Mustang ever". That's faulty logic. That's like saying they used to have chrome mirrors...and as soon as they got rid of em, it wasn't a "Mustang" anymore. The formula is there, and improved...dramatically.

Matt Farrah's IG today has him claiming one of the "Best 5 cars" and "perfect" as he's driving the GT350R for the first time.

I don't know many people that look at the 15+ and say "that's not a Mustang" or "too bad they got rid of the live axle"

Who cares what some salty writer at AutoBlog cares about the 6th Gen Mustang. It's all about what you, the driver thinks/feels. I've owned two S197's and this car is far the best and most refined Mustang I've ever owned.

Most people that buy cars these days wouldn't know a live axle if it fell on them.

:D

Doesn't matter what Mustang comes out and what Ford does, someone will always have an opinion about it whether it be positive or negative.

Best thing you can do is go drive it yourself and you make the judgement call. I think the 6th gen Mustang looks fantastic in comparison to a bunch of regular cars out there. It stands out, and sounds really awesome.

It's great to have the Mustang generating buzz at the Geneva auto show, but most of the article doesn't make much sense.

Maybe I'm wrong but I never recall hearing the mustang benchmarked against the Ferrari 458? Maybe the GT350, but for the GT I only heard the Boss 302, BMW M3/4, and maybe the 911 (not sure about that last).

The writer also implies that the current gen isn't as 'big' or 'loud' as the previous gen. I had a 2012 GT and both exhausts are muted in stock form. Unfortunately the S550 is, as we all know, heavier than the previous gen. Not to mention the original mustangs from the 60's were actually pretty small up until 69 or so.

And of course, there's no law that says a pony car has to have a live rear axle (even if it is better for straight line acceleration).

The worst was the implication that a mustang, or any car with history for that matter, has to be 'retro' to stay true to it's roots. A car company can only relive it's past for so long and stay relevant. Retro didn't even become a thing with the mustang until the mid 90's and the car had been in production for 30 years by that point.

Although I do sometimes fee like the car has lost a little bit of it's rawness with this generation, I would still say it's very true to it's roots. Mustang has always been a short trunk, long hood design; and has always offered a big performance bang for buck. It still does this today.

The S197 folks,+ the Q/C sucks, it gained weight, and the body are as thin as a beer can, and the hood and fenders are made out of the same material, then add the Euro Fusion look, and then the IRS thing.

This guy wrote a horrible article. Because the car got better and he likes his and or owes to much on his to upgrade to the new one he bashes it. Why not say from 96 on up the car isn't the same because it has more than one cam. If your not getting better and improving your car will die off.

Salty indeed. If the writer could put together better articles maybe he wouldn't have to keep his upside down 5th gen Mustang and trade up for a 6G.

Well after watching Top Gear the one thing I will say is that the mustang as a sports car has been lagging for some time now. But considering the price its amazing what ford has done with the new gen.

It seems to me Ford wants the mustang to compete in Europe which means it will only have to get better.

Also going in a straight line is boring as chit. Sorry but it is. I mean its pretty fun for the 4-20 seconds youre going down the track but its not worth the lines and all that. Live axle is old tech and needed to go. These IRS even in stock form are GREAT. Maybe they improved them on the 16 but I have yet to get any wheel hop. And they are WAY better at taking turns.

I mean WAY better.

This is just another one of those so called, Auto Journalists, who is trying to make a name for himself. WHO CARES ?? I also had 2 S197's so i too feel that the S550 is an improvement. If car companies never improved and updated their cars we would be driving the same steel cans that are grandparents did.

He's a 32yo jaded nobody, I could of wrote a better argument if I wanted

I like the previous gen, this is the first one I owned though and while I can't be subjective, it clearly is day and night

That said, one day I'll own a fox, then I'll do a irs swap :p

Well I will read the article, but I do think this is the best generation so far- I'm sure Ford will only make this car better and better.

Update- read the article, he started driving in 2000, his experience is sorely lacking. I've driven Mustangs from the 60's, 80's and even the previous generation. Plus I've owned and driven some very desirable automobiles over the years. This car stands above all of them in many ways. Plus IMO it's one of the sexiest Mustangs ever made and I feel the design with be considered a classic and stand the test of time just as the first generation has.

I bought my first brand new Mustang a 1966 GT 350,I have also had other Mustangs including a 1969 428 Mach 1,I thought he wrote an excellent article, that express the true feelings of many in the Mustang world, hats off to him, very well written.
