My 1970 galaxie XL with the 429 did about 9mpg

That car was awful -- paid $4500 for it, owned it for two years, spent about $15K in repairs. Would get me about fifty miles or so on a tank of premium. Whenever I'd hit the gas on the interstate to accelerate, a gigantic black cloud would belch out the back like it was a diesel or something. Old German cars = money pits.Wow Jimmy, I think you win on worst gas mileage lol
That was about my average in my '96 manual, HWY. I don't think I ever got much below 32-35.I get 41 right now in my escort
Granted that's almost exclusively highway driving to/from dearborn, but I do have every intention of keeping it around as a nice secondary car.
Yea those Rotaries beg you to redline them at least once a day. And I mean that, they require it to run the best. I've always loved the RX8 but the reliability scares me. If it weren't for the reliability I'd have one already and I probably wouldn't be on this forum.04 mazda rx8
~22 mpg on the trip from orlando to roebling road just outside of savana. about 300 miles.
8.6 mpg during the 8 thirty minute track sessions over two days.
~24 mpg on the drive home.. i guess the italian tune up works.

125k miles. on two motors, still going strong. the last 4 years and ~6k miles have been track or going two and from.
been a great car. the reason i am here is i am thinking the eb is going to handle almost the same as the rx8, have double the hp and tq. and get 30mpg as the bonus.
trying hard to just have one car in my garage.

two motors total. original, and then one was replaced at 60k under recall. the first was running fine, and was actually better than the replacement.. the car has been damn reliable, the only issues i have had have been self induced. ;)I'm sorry but if you expect the EB to handle anything like your RX8, you're going to be highly disappointed. The EB will probably handle well, but nothing like a Rotary powered car.
The balance, smoothness, center of gravity and over all weight is just so dramatically different. 500lbs is a lot of weight and you're going to feel it. Sorry not trying to sway you from getting a Mustang, but just trying to help you think realistically.
2 motors on 125k miles is the reliability i'm talking about. You should easily be able to go 150k miles, on one engine, in any car you buy after 2000
I suggest going to test drive the new m3 or m4 because if you don't feel those handle better than your RX then the EB will likely not be much better if any than those two cars.

if there was a track reliable forced induction solution that made 300 whp and tq i would buy a 09 rx8 add FI and be done. but not going to happen.
the ecoboost is only 300 lbs more with twice the hp and tq.. i think it is going to be a little different. biggest will be higher cg. but everything else lines up nicely. 3" more wheelbase.
as to bmw, that was what started this mess. found some really killer deals on 11 z4 350i"s. started doing research on them which led to about 6 months of learning about all bmws. you would not believe how cheap you can buy off lease bmws in fl. i will pass. as to the m4 that is just to much money to wrap up in a car for me.
as to the mustang, we will see. my local dealer has two base eb / pp / recaros coming in the first wave of shipping. one co the other mag, the two colors i would buy. not sure if it fate, i am still fighting wanting a premium. we will see.
if i do go this way, mods will be pretty simple.
koni shocks
alu driveshaft
track pads
light wheels and rivals or re-11s
tune and intercooler later..
just hoping i can hold off till the R comes out.. wish me luck. as it might be possible to make it to my daytona event in a mustang without to much luck.

Everywhere i've seen the Rx8 weighs about 2900 to 3000 lbs. That's 500 less and even 300lbs you are going to feel. I went from a Focus to a GTI and I could feel that difference.
And I was only suggesting test driving them not buying them as the weight would give you a good idea as to what the heavier EB will feel like.
The R?
rx8 on scales roebling road.. 3169 with full fuel.
15 golf R is the other car, trying to have one car for dd and track.. love rwd, have grown to love a hatch. this is going to suck as the R will not be here till Q1.
should be at roebling in nov. you should join!
