If I understand you correctly the upper door panels on your 68B packaged car aren't soft touch? Can any other people with 68B confirm this?

I can't tell any difference in the upper door panels between my 68B and the non-68B on the showroom floor. Door cards and upholstery leather are distinctly different, and the Redline stitching is amazing.

I have 68B, and my upper door panels are most definitely soft touch. They aren't leather (although the middle of the door is), but they are softer than the hard plastic that is on the bottom half of the door.

I agree the plastic has give to it, but no different than the other two 2015s I have sat in. I THOUGHT soft-touch would mean "upholstered." It does not. That doesn't make it bad or cheap in any way. Just not what I had come to expect.

300 miles. First post-delivery fill-up was 22.6 mpg on my normal mix of secondary and mountain roads. My MKZ typically gets about 23 to 24 doing the same thing, so that's not bad at all.

I was swarmed at the office yesterday. Men and women both. Completely positive reactions. People love the Foundry wheels and the Redline interior. We happened to be looking at the car when our Enterprise Rent A Car rep came by. She was very impressed. They have just received some V6s, but she really liked the Premium dash and Redline leather.

This car is amazing. I am going to love the voice commands on MFT. Fairly intuitive and responsive, as long as you remember to WAIT FOR THE BEEP before you speak. Being able to set radio stations, go to my iPod, control where air is going, set fan speed, enter nav destinations and much more without taking my eyes off the road is pretty fantastic.

On the 68B thing, the tops of the doors are not soft, but the armrests are. Is that different from standard? I didn't notice that detail on the others I sat in, but these are really nice.

The telescoping wheel is good. It lets me sit farther back, which gives me more room to get in and out of the car without whacking my head on the A-pillar. I have a long body and short legs, so this is a problem in other cars. I almost couldn't get into my Infiniti G35 when it was set for me, because there just was no space!

The AT is very relaxed in Normal mode. A little too relaxed, maybe. But it's fine when I am just toodling through traffic. In the mountains, Sport mode is MUCH better. 5th gear is really useful up the hills to my house. The 5.0 is really a torque monster, and it will pull 6th gear at 1700 RPM up that 8% grade, but the car is a lot more responsive down a gear or two.

I wish the lawyers hadn't limited MFT while the car is moving. My wife would like to be able to use all the functions from the passenger seat, but it won't let her pair a phone, look up a number, program a destination, or anything else requiring typing when the car is not in Park.

The base (400A) Shaker is just fine with me. I don't like thumping base, so the lack of a subwoofer is a plus. Once I fiddled with the sound settings, I am getting a very clear, natural sound. I like it.

I think the sound level is fine. The engine snarls with a very sophisticated sound when you get on it, but it's silent when cruising. That's so much better than a drone! The only way I would change it would be if I could have a switchable sound level. One for play, one for driving the wife.

Handling with the A/S tires and base suspension is honestly much better than I expected, especially after the magazine reviews. I am relatively flying along my familiar roads. No lean, no brake dive, no wallow through bumpy downhill corners. The steering is amazingly direct. The non-PP brakes are plenty. (Remember, these are not chopped liver but are the Track Pack brakes from last year.) Very solid pedal, and right-now stopping. Steering effort seems just right on "Normal." "Sport" feels like an old 280Z, very heavy, and "Comfort" is fine if you like '73 LTDs.

Complaints: Few. The sun visors are too small, and virtually useless the way they are placed. They barely extend below the top of the door glass. Meh. There is NO rear seat room. Forget it. No foot space at all. I guess it'll make a good cargo shelf. The ergonomics of the cruise control buttons are pretty strange. Hard to use by feel since there are so many rocker switches in a very small space. The odometer digits are too small to read easily. (I'm really digging here, can you tell?)

The car looks great. Was considering white too. Mine is on order now, so the wait is on. I'm also coming out of a G35 as well, the sedan though 2007. Can't wait to drive the car, whenever that will be. For now can only drive it playing Forza on my Xbox one.

Redline Pictures

Finally remembered to take some interior pictures. The red is really very subdued, with a bit of brown or brick color in it. Not a pure read by any means. I am very happy with the color and more happy with the materials. The door tops really are softer than the other models, even if they have the same pebble-texture to them. Armrests are very soft and leather-like. No idea what is leather and what is vinyl, but this interior is better than what Lincoln uses in the MKZ and way beyond any previous Mustang.

One of my happiest moments in this whole ordering/wondering/waiting process was when Tony posted pictures from inside the factory the day production started (August 28, right?) and we saw the Foundry wheels were charcoal, not gloss black like the prototypes. I had already ordered them as the best compromise for me among the available choices, but wasn't thrilled about gloss black even with the machined trim. Charcoal? NOW we were talking! I love the way the car looks, and I get lots of compliments on . . . the wheels!

Road Trip to Boise

Yesterday we rolled out at 5 AM and drove the 700+ miles to Boise, ID for Thanksgiving. We made great time thanks to clear roads and plenty of power to pass whenever the mood struck, LOL.

The Trip 2 was rest before we left, and it's showing a hair over 28 mpg for the trip. My early experience is telling me there's about 1.5 mpg between the computer and reality, so we apparently averaged about 26.5 for the trip. That's every bit as good as the former Lincoln MKZ and its 3.5 V6, with two people and well over 200 pounds of luggage, food and power tools in the trunk.

Had to pass nose-to-tail semis on US 95 (poor me.) 55 to 110 before the first truck was overtaken. Sweet. There's a great deal of security in being able to get passes over and done without a lot of fuss.

Man, I like this car!

I'm also making a road trip from Oregon back to Colorado sometime in March to see family. I love road trips, I'm already excited for this one!
