My '17 no option (spare tire and auto trans) car battery is original. Car also sat unsold for 6 mo. which makes a difference. The last time I put the trickle charger on it took almost a day to reach full charge. Makes me think about a new one before winter. Going to get the biggest one I can.

Most alternators will produce about half the rated output at 2000 rpm (alternator speed). Most are also rated for a maximum speed of 10,000 rpm so ours are likely turning at a ratio of about 1.4 x engine speed (looks close from eyeballing pulley sizes).
This should easily keep the battery charged at cruise, which on 6 speed cars is about 2000 rpm. Seems reasonable, I drove a couple hours with lights, AC, etc at about 70 mph in 6th and the battery was fine.

Running at 5000 rpm is much more fun and it works! ;)
