I just got a 2019 GT convertible. I’m eventually going to supercharge it but was trying to start on the exhaust first. I know the three main components to consider are headers, crossover pipe, and mufflers. In an ideal performance standpoint… headers with a straight through exhaust with “x” piping would be perfect but I’m pretty sure the sound would be pretty loud and take away from it.

I don’t mind a loud exhaust but preferably no drone or rasp. What would be the best performance wise upgrades without loosing flow if I’m able to keep some of the sound tame…?

I have the tuning hardware/software so dash lights and tuning aren’t a concern.

H pipe will produce a deeper sound so x pipe higher pitch but more hp.

My opinion, if you are doing headers and axle back exhaust, keep the stock resignator in place. You won't have drone, but will definately have volume and it won't be high pitched. It will keep the tone more deep

My .02

1 7/8 longtubes (a quality set with proper clearances between primary tubes and elsewhere on the car to avoid rattling and producing false knock, thereby actually making the car LOSE power) Kooks is said to be good on these cars. I'm sure there's others.

No cats

Magnaflow resonated X pipe or a regular X pipe with resonators welded into the backside of it. Or the factory resonator, but it'll be down some on power compared to a resonated X pipe. The factory resonator isn't an actual crossover pipe, so no scavenging effect, unfortunately.

Full-size, straight-through mufflers with sound absorbing material (think along the lines of a borla touring muffler)

All of that is as high flow as possible, while keeping sound absorbing materials in two different places in the system to keep it sounding as clean as possible.

If that's still too loud (doubtful), you could add resonators where the cats used to be also. But I'd hold off on those until you finish the rest and see where you are.

The stock resonator is as straight through as it gets. Both pipes go straight to their respective exits, there are perforations to the suitcase surround with sound deading material which helps the sound wave cancelling.

If you ever have a chance to remove one you can see straight through both pipes.

Thank you for all the responses! I ended up finding a pair long tube headers for $500 so I definitely couldn’t pass up that offer. The only downside are that they are 2 inch so I might lose some torque until I get around to supercharging the engine. I also was under the car (since I just got it this) and found out it has the active exhaust so it sounds like just the headers alone will get me to where I want to be. Thanks again everyone.
