Hi everyone,

I recently receive my Bama custom tunes. 87 performance and 91 race, the performance feels improved but damn the idle is nasty. Like I start the car and the rims shoot up to 1200, the idle is set at 650. What I dislike is how it shakes a few times during initial start up.

I don’t know if the computer needs to relearn the idle but damn :( would the rough idle cause damage to my motor?

The first time you load up a tune, the motor will take longer than normal to start. If it idles rough when the RPMs have dropped, email BAMA and explain it to them. They'll have you run a datalog and send it to them.

I mean when I start it the rpms are at 1200, after minutes it eventually goes down to 650 and doesn’t idle bad. I’m just scared to start it and leave a minute after like I used to.

When I start moving and eventually get to a stop it idles normally though

Have you sent them a data log to allow them to write a revision?

Plus - a cold start always idles higher. Even with the stock tune it will hold 1100-1200 rpm for a little.

It's probably just the ECU raising the RPMs to heat up the engine faster.

Could be true, I just don’t want engine damage you know?

I have the Rev X tuner and it says I can upload data logs to the cloud, the tunes Bama sent me were via the cloud since I don’t a pc. I just can’t figure out how to data log on the tuner, it only says pre 2011 mustangs and then has trucks listed.

I have had Bama tunes and they were fine for me. It may idle a little rough on idle until the engine warms up. I'm not sure how to datalog with that tuner- I have SCT X4. I had to create a configuration file on the LiveLink GenII software it came with and then upload that to the tuner so I could datalog the selected parameters. Call AM or Bama and they'll hook you up.

I just spoke to them and they said the computer just needs to relearn the cold start idle. I guess that makes sense. I’ll just wait and see what happens this week

Definitely do a datalog and have them check it. It'll give you peace of mind knowing you can go WOT and your engine is safe and making good power:cheers:

True, I’ll call them up tomorrow or Wednesday and see if they can revise it. The customer service department is super nice lol

No, you're not going to damage anything.

Pretty normal especially when you have the AC turned on during initial start up.
No you are not gonna damage anything.
Now if you start it and peg it at redline, you might cause some damage.

My dad once started my car when there was no intake on it. Just the throttle body was on it. I told him while I was installing the cold air intake that the car does not move until I've finished and loaded the tune onto it.

I heard my car roar to life and I ran outside saying WTH are you doing? He pleaded ignorance but he had to move my car for a few seconds and he knew what he was doing - and did it anyway.

I got a chuckle out of that, sounds like the father/son role in reverse.
