Had my car up at a friends place and he looked underneath and noticed something wasn’t right. He told me my driveshaft flex coupling looked bad. I drove all the way home from Lakeland to Port Charlotte thinking about it, not really knowing how bad it actually was. Got it up on my lift and pulled it and it was completely destroyed. Cords hanging out, rubber torn apart, barely holding together. That’s what really hit me. I had just driven that distance and I’ve been out here driving hard and doing WOT pulls like everything’s fine. Sitting here now thinking about it, one more hit and this could’ve been a completely different kind of post. Not about the car,not about parts, something a lot worse. And honestly, if he didn’t catch it when he did,i don’t even want to think about how that could’ve played out.I’m just grateful i made it home and got the chance to fix it.If you got miles on your car or you drive it hard take a few minutes and check your driveline. It’s not something you think about until it’s too late.

Whew good catch. It’s probably something everyone should keep an eye on as these cars age and that rubber starts to deteriorate.

Those are a known failure item on the S550’s…. Yours is the worst I’ve seen to date.

This link has the DIY repair for anyone else needing to replace the coupler (also referred to as the “guibo”):
