I had a 2011 GT 3.73 gears, manual with the Roush AB....no drone. Having a manual to adjust the RPM range and the higher gears was key.

I had a 2015 GT 3.15 gears, auto with the very same Roush AB....some drone at about 1,200 to 1,500 RPM ranges low speed 35-40 MPH. If I flipped to sport mode, the drone went away in that range. My opinion was the lower 3.15 gears and auto made the difference.

My two cents.

PS: I now have a 2017 GT 3.55 gears, auto, with Ford Racing Borla Sport Axel Back......no drone at any RPM range.

Hi all, I drive an auto GT and I've had the Roush AB for a year now and the only complaint I have is the drone. It droned so much under 2000rpm with the stock resonator and when I swapped the stock resonator to a resonated x-pipe, things only got slightly better. It seems like nobody is really talking about the drone from Roush AB so is it just me?

I have the automatic transmission, could that be the issue? If so, what other exhausts properly deal with drone from an automatic? When they claim "zero drone" such as Borla or Corsa, do they mean zero drone for manuals or autos as well? Thank you!
How did I know....you know like 99% of you guys never seem to learn to drive a stick and selecting the right gear for the situation. Instead, you insist on being in the highest gear and lowest RPM and then cry about the car doing this that and the other when the problem is...YOU. :frusty:

I'm sure it's not the constant tone, the hum is just fine but ears get destroyed when it hits a certain rpm range at a certain load...
Is it like something is pushing ears?

I think I got this problem with another axleback, and I think the real issue was improper clamping of pipes any sound escaping under the car may get into cabin and create very unpleasant feeling. Like, its fairly quiet inside, you can talk to passengers, but there's some unpleasant frequency that creates hearing discomfort.

My axleback clamps (bbk varitune) are actually pretty low quality - just the clamp and the bolt. Better quality clamps are with dual layer - the clamp itself and a thin layer of metal.

I re-unclamped all joints with several layers of heavy duty foil and that made it much better.

Around 2000 rpm is a notorious place for drone. Gearing would certainly affect what you are hearing. I felt that my ABs droned a bit when I first got them. Removing the sound tube definitely helped bring down the level; my wife also noticed the difference. I also added Dynamat to several areas in the rear of the car. It took out some of the road noise, which I think combines with exhaust sounds and contributes to overall noise.

You sure you're not confusing drone with just a constant tone? Many exhausts have a consistent hum at cruise, but not true resonance (drone). The Borla stuff for sure. Corsa is nearly silent at cruise. Just as quiet as stock until you get deeper into the throttle.

Try capping off/removing your sound tube first before you spend more money. There's a weird acoustic mixing that happens with the tube and aftermarket exhaust.
I have Borla Touring and have drone at 6th gear on 2100 rev/min.

Sound deadening in the trunk well will help eliminate unwanted noise and a $5.00 valve will give you control of the induction sound tube.
I clamped sound pipe in the place where you have the valve, and it helped. But pipe removal was even better. Note that membranes are behind the valve, and under the hood sound can still vibrate them.

Longtube headers/h pipe/Roush AB no drone. MT82 car wit 3.73s. You can hear the exhaust when cruising but it isn't a resonating drone sound.
