Went to go to work today and the car started up but was idling rough put it in drive and the service engine light started flashing when the gas pedal was pressed, kicked codes P0300, P0304, P0305 and P0308 all for engine cylinder misfires. Multiple restarts with no help wouldn't go above idle, so I limped it back into the garage and took my Edge to work. Turns out I had just filled the tank the night before so I went to talk to the gas station and found out some idiot left the cap open on their tank and we are in the middle of monsoon season so their tank and now my tank are full of water. They had me file a claim and now I have to wait for their corporate office to call about getting the tank dropped and the fuel system flushed.

So the claim includes cost of a rental and what else besides fixing the car?

As long as they cover the repairs, I will be happy.

Did they know about the contaminated fuel before or after you bought it?

Here in FL each gas pump has a sticker on it. Dept of Agriculture inspection sticker, anyway it has a phone number in case you get bad gas or diesel fuel. I've had to call that number twice. Both times an inspector was there same day. Both times I got calls from the Station's insurance adjuster immediately after the report came back positive for contamination. Everything was covered from the tow to the draining and flushing and replacement fuel. I think I should have asked for a rental too.

Whoa, I hope everything goes well man. The driver who delivers the fuel is the one at fault here. Horrible horrible mistake. I own two Shell gas stations; about 4 years ago, the driver dumped diesel into the 87 tanks. :frusty: thankfully he caught the mistake on time as only one car filled up (the driver was fired regardless). Anyways, you should be covered for all your repairs. Most of the bigger suppliers/ brands will also cover for your rental (atleast in CA they will) I hope everything goes well & Keep us updated.

Holy sh*t!! Whoever it was must've left the lid off the spill bucket (the round metal cover that's flush with the surrounding concrete), AND the cap that goes on the riser (fill pipe) up from the tank in the ground, where the tanker driver connects his hose. Which is under that round metal lid. Somebody should be fired, or it was some a**hole who took them off if they're not locked.
