Hello All!

New guy here. Long time lurker - first time poster, lol.

I recently purchased a 2015 EB that had an intermittent backup camera display. I found where the TSB had been accomplished (although I have my doubts). I did an inspection of the wire harness and found no problems. I ordered a backup camera with decent reviews from that huge online store.

I replaced the camera and it works very well with one exception. The parking guide lines point up at an exaggerated angle. I made certain the camera was seated properly in the housing and tried again with the same results.

Can anyone tell me if this is something that can be solved with FORscan to re-calibrate the camera? Or, is this a function of the camera (which for some reason I don't think it is).

Adding obligatory pictures.

Thank you!

Be afraid, be very afraid …

Judging by that line position, it’s plotting against you …

I'm guessing the new camera has a different field of view than the factory one. I don't think the lines on the screen are any different, it's just that the new camera has a different fishbowl effect.

Ah - didn't think about that.

I did a quick search -

It appears that the stock camera field of view is around 170 degrees as is the replacement.

Hmmm, in that case it might just be a matter of alignment.
Any way to adjust the mount/housing so the camera aims lower?

I did not see a way to mechanically adjust the camera or the housing. I did take it out and put it back in twice to ensure the camera face and mount bracket were flush as well as looking at the camera lens on the outside to ensure it was equal around the opening.

There is a calibration procedure for the OEM part that puts the lines where they need to be in the display. Not sure if that will be possible with an aftermarket camera.

There is a backup camera calibration service method in ForSCAN. It might be worth a try.
I had read a bit about that but was unsure if my problem could be fixed by the re-calibration. I have an interface cable arriving tomorrow. I will download forscan and give it a try in a couple of days.

I also have another camera on order just to see.

Thanks.

Followed the same on my 15, cut zip lines in trunk to eliminate the stress on the wires and then bought the replacement camera that was listed in the recall for my vehicle. Place new one in and the used Forscan to calibrate camera as stated above and my backup lines were correct. Did not want some flunkie Ford technician messing with wire or camera. GL

Greetings!

Follow-up to my camera conundrum.

I attempted to calibrate the camera with FORScan and was unsuccessful. I kept getting a DTC fault anytime I attempted a calibration or the LIN procedure.

I picked up a Ford part from the local dealership today. I asked the parts guy if it would need calibrated to which he replied it was plug and play and should not need calibration.

I installed the camera tonight after work and got a great picture but, no parking lines. I used FORScan to execute the "LIN" task (sorry - can't remember or find the exact verbiage). It's the one just under Camera Calibration and for newly installed modules. The "task" was completed quickly and everything looks good right now.

Thanks for everyone's input!
