After researching all that I could about back up camera issues. My particular problem didn't exist.

Basically what is happening is.. if I initially turn the car on in reverse the camera will turn on but as soon as the infotainment system boots up the camera disappears and pretty much acts like no camera is even there.. I don't get a black screen, error message, or blurry picture.

Has anyone ran into this issue??

Also, I have checked the wiring harness in the trunk and the fuse and all is perfect.

Not everyone has the same symptoms but the core issue most likely is the same. Honestly best to let your dealer handle it under the recall.

It's not always the wires. If I recall correctly, there was an issue with the camera itself as well necessitating replacement. When mine went in for warranty the camera got replaced as well as the wire fix.

When you say the wires looked good - did you peel back the black conduit surrounding the actual wires? The conduit can look fine, it’s what is found behind the conduit that is usually bad.

@Cobra Jet I went all the way down to the wires and looked at each wire to look for breaks or completely ripped wires and everything checked out fine.

At this point I'm thinking it's the camera or my aftermarket Raxiom infotainment system. (I upgraded the 4" 3 years ago)

Well you forgot to mention this. There is a chance Ford will not cover this under the recall due to your modification.

@Bikeman315 Yeah I somewhat figured 🤦‍♂️ . So I'm pretty much trying to troubleshoot it myself. I did test the wiring Harness for the camera and I had no voltage coming from any of the wires, which seemed strange.

Do you think the reverse switch on the trans is bad?

It could be so many different things. Unless you're willing to spend a lot of time and money in part swapping, best to let the dealer do. Sometimes you just have to bit the bullet. :frown:

If you start your car in any gear but reverse, it operates normally? Then you shift in to reverse and it is good? If so, I would park the car in 1st and call it a day.

As Bikeman315 posted, the dealership won’t touch the vehicle for the recall since the original SYNC system has been replaced with a Raxiom.

I would back track on your wiring to the Raxiom, make sure nothing has come loose as far as any connections, etc. Check all grounds too.

Pull the center console apart around the shifter and make sure any harnesses there didn’t get pinched or damaged.

You could always buy a S550 rear decklid camera off eBay and swap the cams to confirm it’s not a cam issue. If the “new” cam does the same as your original with no other changes, then it is an issue with the Raxiom or wiring.
