Hmm...prolly gonna do a combo. Felt/rubber pads on the back of the plate at the bottom and some plastic/rubber washers on the top. If I can find rubber washers, I'll do rubber.

Hey guys,

Just thought I'd post this pic. This is how I finally decided to mount my plate. The white caps are probably for assembling furniture. I used nylon spacers to lift the plate off the bumper. I also put a layer of 3M film where the spacer sat on the bumper so even the paint there doesn't rub off, haha. The white caps are called 'screw caps' or something and I bought all the stuff at Lowes. Can't remember the size of the spacers but if anyone wants to know sizing or part numbers for anything just let me know. Don't have them on hand right now or I'd post.

I just did 3/8 door jam sealer. (Squishy stuff) the key is to put the sticky part on the paint. It comes off east enough with no residue. Putting it on the paint insures that the the tiny debris doesn't get between the paint and bumper and rub like it would if the sticky side was on the plate. Easy peasy.

Prep center put black (color of the car) clay, like Play Doh, between the car and plate. It sticks to both, so no rubbing or dirt underneath. Can take off and on easily if you change plates. No marks.

I bought this and HIGHLY recommend it. The plate doesn't touch the paint, the plastic bracket does, so I just bought thick Velcro and cut the soft part to size and put on the part the makes contact with the paint.

I spaced my rear plate with one or two rubber washers at each of the two screw attachment points. Now the bottom edge of my plate (and the rest of the plate) floats about a quarter inch off the body panel.

I encountered the same thing. I used a silicone rubbber pad from Home Depot. These are used on cabinet doors to keep them from banging into the cabinet. Various diameters are available. I used one in the center bottom of the plate located right between the stripes. My plate is bowed a bit, so one in the middle is fine. You may need one at each bottom corner. Yes, it will probably wear the paint, but it will be behind the plate. It's unlikely to damage the stripes and cause them to start peeling. I have NOT drilled my front bumper for a plate! That would make me ill . . . .

I'd move to another state if they required me to do that. Serious.
