You should take a look at the Transmission & Drivetrain forum sometime. Might change your tune.
This is poor logic though; the number of complaints on a forum is far from being representative of the buying population. People are inclined to voice their complaints than to make a post that says "yeah my purchase is meeting expectations."

manual....fu*ck auto
Just curious, how old are you? I'm seriously asking this question.

Here are some quick facts:
- Manual transmissions are generally dead except in value/cheap or performance oriented automobiles.
- Modern automatics have proven to be less problematic than manuals, and generally return better fuel mileage than manuals.
- Fewer than 10% of all automobiles sold in 2013 and 2014 were equipped with a manual transmission.

This is true, very much so. But you also have to admit that the MT82 is not the greatest trans. I would love to have seen a nice Tremec 6 speed.

The MT82 sure seems to sit poorly with a lot of people here, but it must be a YMMV kind of thing. I honestly do love my transmission. Third gear could be a little more defined, but it snicks into place, gives me positive feedback, and hasn't really shown any kind of catastrophic signs like most people are talking about on here. And I don't plan on strapping a blower to my car so the power ceiling isn't an issue either... it's a step up from the ZF6 in my old 3er, that's for sure lol.

kinda like how ringlands were blowing up left and right all over the forums when i had my wrx. and i had it all the way up to 85k miles before i sold it for the GT, and never a drop of oil was burned.

that engine was pushing at least 100hp per cylinder for a while too on E85

Don't know how to drive a manual, and am afraid of destroying the engine with an accidental shift into first gear at 65 mph.
That is highly unlikely to happen.... ;-)

2 back surgeries with sciatic nerve pain, auto was the only option for me.

Shifts very smooth... and quick enough for me.

I've only owned stick shifted cars. Each one has been better than the previous. Each one has lasted 100,000 + miles. Not sure why people are hating on this transmission. Kind of difficult to say it's less/more durable than something else when you've owned it for less than 6 months. This car easily shifts nicer than anything I've been in. As for choosing a stick... I prefer being engaged and in control while I drive. I have no fear driving in any weather/road condition. And I never have to worry about friends/family asking to take her for a spin. I'm not hating on the auto. It allows those who otherwise wouldn't be able to drive to get around - I'll be in that boat some day too.

Agreed. There is no need to be that outrageously antagonistic about stating one's own preferences. As a driver dedicated to owning only MT cars for as long as I have, his post signature embarrasses me.

But I'm going to insert a few equally quick replies
Here are some quick facts:
- Manual transmissions are generally dead except in value/cheap or performance oriented automobiles. A fact? Yes. A good thing? No.

- Modern automatics have proven to be less problematic than manuals, and generally return better fuel mileage than manuals. Not sure about this. A whole industry grew up around repairing automatic transmissions, and nowadays there are quite a few P0xxx DTC's specifically related to troubleshooting automatic transmissions and their occasionally aberrant behavior.

- Fewer than 10% of all automobiles sold in 2013 and 2014 were equipped with a manual transmission. Just because almost everybody else prefers to do things one way is no reason that we all must blindly follow suit, It's fine to want to throw in with the 90+% if that's your preference, but tossing it out there in an attempt to change a MT enthusiast's mind will only serve to "harden" the opposing positions on this matter.

My wife occasionally drives my car and she's been known to fiddle with her phone on rare occasions. She wouldn't dare try that on a manual. That made my decision very easy. Manual all the way!!!

After the issues I had with my '13 manual trans, went with auto on my EB. My '13 had the trans replaced at 7,200 miles after it started whining very loudly, locking me out of 2nd/3rd during normal driving, and generally being unpleasant. The replacement held up better, but was still clunky, notchy, and louder than any manual I've ever owned. Part of the issue was the craptastic shifter mount design on the '11-'14....horrible mechanics. The other issue was the dual mass flywheel used on the 3.7, and now the EB manual as well. Heavy, clunky, and mine had an annoying decel vibration between 3400-2600 rpm. Even with the Steeda billet alum shifter mount and alum driveshaft, it still was not great to drive.

The redesigned shifter mounting system for the S550 is much better, but turbos tend to load better with an auto trans. Learned that lesson through tinkering with my turbo Buicks years ago, so it made the decision easy with my Eco. I also had to think about my crunchy left knee from years of military service....traffic was not fun with a manual. Besides, I kinda like messing with the paddles...lol.

These may be valid in North America. Manual is the default almost everywhere else, incl. Europe...
