It also keeps the rev higher, so that it's closer to the optimum power band rather than lower for economy sake. It also engine brakes which is noticeable in fast corners. It also adjusts the traction control and tones down the other Nanny bits.
Yeah that's all another discussion. I was just explaining how the throttle response was done. It's just a gimmick really.
