It also keeps the rev higher, so that it's closer to the optimum power band rather than lower for economy sake. It also engine brakes which is noticeable in fast corners. It also adjusts the traction control and tones down the other Nanny bits.

Yeah that's all another discussion. I was just explaining how the throttle response was done. It's just a gimmick really.

Yep, hold your foot steady on the accelerator and shift from D to S - the car will pull/accelerate cause the throttle mapping just changed and the same point on the pedal in S gives you more go.

Yep. Same thing if you seitch to snow. It's reducing throttle angle accordingly to new map.

But I have to say the snow mode is a awesome thing for up here in Chicago. Yes I know common sense and knowing how to drive still matter. But snow mode cutting power and snow tires will give me more confidence going to work.

Am I supposed to be using Sport+ mode only when the shifter is in "S"?

I've been toggling on Sport+ mode in "D".

The engine kinda jerks as I slow down, guessing that's the engine braking?

Also, for "S" can I shift to that while the car is in motion or do I shift to it at a stop? Will the car not shift or will it still shift in "S"?

I would really appreciate if someone could explain Sport Mode, Track Mode, Sport+ Mode, and having the shifter in S

So far I haven't seen a Sport Mode, only Sport+ Mode which I've been switching on while the shift stick is in "D". Not sure if that's safe or not.

When you put the shifter in S and then toggle the drive modes, you'll see 3 choices: sport, sport+, and track. You can no longer choose normal or snow/wet.

Sport (S on the shifter) gives enhanced engine breaking and holds the gears longer for spirited driving. Also changes throttle mapping so you'll go faster with the accelerator at the same angle v D. It also gives you the option to disable auto shift entirely and use the paddles full time.

Sport+ mode increases steering feel and throttle mapping. It somewhat duplicates Sport mode, but it needs to because a manual doesn't have Sport.

Track mode turns traction control way down and increases throttle response even above S/sport+. Not recommended for public roads.

It is safe to shift from D to S while moving, and it's ok to use any of the avsilable drive modes I either. In fact that's the whole point, to customize your driving experience, with the different combos plus the steering modes.

The transmission section of the Mustang Dealer Sourcebook it says that in Sport Mode the transmission "includes 2nd-gear Start Mode".

Does the transmission indeed start off in 2nd gear in S and 1st gear when in D?

This is what I've been looking for. Thank you!

When I move the gear into S does it automatically fully engage the paddle shifters or will it automatically shift for me still UNTIL I engage the paddle shifters?

First car I've ever had with paddle shifters... It seems like a gimmick to me, and pretty useless. Especially since they don't actually let you put it in the gear you want. Here in NYC, the speed limit citywide is 25 mph, so I want to upshift into sixth gear for fuel economy when I'm cruising at 25 mph everywhere... Car won't let me do that. What's the point in having paddle shifters if it won't let you pick the gear?
You're right...kind of. I think that's probably because it does't use a dual gate (dual mode) set-up where you would have a manual mode and be able to select a gear with the paddle and or shifter.
But on the opposite, couldn't you use the ( - ) paddle in conjunction with trans breaking to slow the car without using as much break pedal?
Seems like you're missing out on half the functionality of the paddles?

In S, as long as you don't touch the paddles it'll shift for you, but once you touch a paddle it's all on you. Only thing it won't let you do is stall - itll auto downshift if you go too slow in too tall a gear.

I find I do exactly this as much as anything, downshift plus engine breaking to slow down. I think it's a nice "feel" thing to add to an auto.
