Maybe I've missed it in a previous thread or discussion but why no Performance Package option with an auto tranny. Is there a physical limitation in the car that prevents this?

Faster

Hi,
They don't want the mustang with paddle shifters to be faster than the stick car so they don't offer it.

You've definitely missed a lot of bickering and discussion on this. No, there is no performance pack for the Auto. No, there are currently no known plans for one. No, there is no physical limitation that we know of.

There is no physical limitation on this; the Limited Edition models and Europe-bound models get automatics with the Performance Pack. They just want the PP to be track-focused, and the thinking is that nobody would get an automatic for the track.

A few reasons: kind of being funny but then again...
1. Because your going to actually race and you need hardcore racing parts.
2. Ford is working on an Auto-only Drag pack.
3. Ford just left it out.
4. Ford thought it wouldn't sell.

The autos have tended to be faster than stick cars in most instances for a while now. I have a M6, but that's the truth.

Corvette is available with the z51 handling pack and a hot quick shifting 8 speed auto. This is a very hot set up and it seems to be selling like a mad man. Porsche, Ferrari, Audi, BMW all have high performance set ups with high performance auto trans. A very small percentage of these cars goes out with a manual.

While traditionalists may decry the auto revolution, the auto now provides better performance in many/most cases. I would love to see the Ford/GM 10 speed auto in the gt350. And, I would love to see it in my garage!

Are you talking only about the GT? Ecoboost offers a PP with auto.

The type of auto Ford is currently offering is not a track friendly auto. Nothing like PDK or even the Chevy 8 speed. Though frankly most drivers would be faster with a decent slush box. 911 Turbos with the old tiptronic were generally faster in the hands of an average driver as compared to the same driver with a stick.

I ordered an Ecoboost auto with the PP as well
I'm guessing others are referring to the GT?

I do get your point, but understand all the cars you mentioned are WAY more expensive than the mustang. I think everyone is blown away how far this car has come and how nice it is, but at the end of the day it still is a 'budget' car and will have those shortcomings on THAT measuring stick. The 6 speed is nice for pedestrian purposes but they have to have a more advanced box to match the sporting credentials of a PP
