Installed the Ford Racing by Borla, Sport, Axle Back system over the weekend. I thought it wouldn't be loud enough with just the axle backs so I also ordered a Ford Racing X-Pipe the day before I installed it, wish I waited until I put the axle backs in first before ordering now.
If anyone has watched any of the videos of this system it sounds nothing like the videos. It is heaps deeper sounding, I've only revved it to 4k as I'm still running in but so far there is no raspyness like the videos. Nice deep V8 rumble and occasionally has the crackle/pop when you rev it up and let go. It is considerably louder than standard but nowhere near the level of being obnoxious/intrusive. We can actually hear the engine now when cruising where as before you only heard it while getting up to speed. I think I will leave it as is and not worry about the X-Pipe for now as it now sounds like it should have out of the factory. Very Impressed so far
Thanks for the info Unkle Ed, I already bought the Borla S Type axle backs and wondered if the X pipe was necessary. I wonder if the S Type would sound close to yours?

I imagine it would be similar, I have read the Borla systems are more deeper, less raspier and slightly quieter. If that is the case, X Pipe might be a good addition.

Also the weight saving is considerable, couldn't believe how heavy the standard mufflers were.

Hi all , I have a set of Borla ATAK axle backs with black tips that I picked up to use on my stock exhaust when I first got my GT but have since fitted an S Type catback . I'm thinking about selling them if anyone is interested ?

Can I ask what is anyone's experience with Xforce with Varex mufflers. I hear that the Varez mufflers can fail and that support isnt offered by the exhaust shops ?

cheers

I don't own the system but the service manager at my dealership owns it. He prefers it with the baffles closed but he does experience drone. He likened the open baffle to a VN commodore with straight pipes. He sold his system after 3 months ownership and is now running a Corsa Sport.

Exhausts are extremely subjective though, it would be best to catch up with a user who has that system installed

I put a Varex system on my VE HSV....sounded crap open.....and crap closed.

I heard a New mustang yesterday with a Xforce catback (non-Varex) and it sounded very nice. It was at BPT Motorsport in Perth they have a facebook page with a few videos of it. It is their own R&D car.

Hey guys, has anyone fitted the Borla Atak cat back system? Just wondering how loud it really is? I was looking at the S Type but I'm now leaning more towards the Atak but after doing a lot of reading I'm concerned that it may be too loud and I'll get hassled by the police for it.

It will be loud going by what my Ford Racing by Borla Sport axle back is like at start up. Seriously scared to take the centre resonator out and put an X-Pipe in.

lol, its pretty dang loud. If you're worried about loudness I'd personally stick with the S types.

Dunno about the ATAK, but I've got the (slightly) louder Corsa Xtreme. No issues with police (touch wood), but I admit it is ridiculously loud when opened up. Driving normally isn't too obnoxious, sounds great but guaranteed it'll still turn 90% of heads you drive past. Get used to people pointing, giving thumbsup, pulling up alongside to have a chat, kids yelling out "MUSTANG" etc haha. I've had one hater yell out "wanker", to which I gave an obligatory smile and thumbsup.

Sounds like a jet engine at cold start though, tossing up ideas to quieten it down. Whatever you get, it will be louder than you bargain for lol

Thanks for the feedback guys, sounds like it's EXTREMELY loud! Which to be honest, I'm a fan of. I want to be heard before I'm seen, if you know what I mean. I do like the traditional deep V8 burble though rather than the high pitch raspiness that I think the Atak would have which is why I was leaning towards the S Type.

You'll sacrifice a fair amount of volume. I've heard the ford racing sport catback (and driven behind it on the road), which I think is supposed to be about on par with the s-type. It does sound great, and definitely a lot more street friendly volume-wise, but if you get the s-type you'll always be wondering what could've been. Embrace the rasp :ninja:
