I have sitting in garage a Borla Touring Catback, black tips. Great deal from Hypermotive. Very flexible supplier. Agonised whether at 2.5" its big enough. Absolutely. It will remain a Nat atmo car - will be getting LT headers and I would not be surprised that if there is a difference in power its slight and > 4000 rpms.
I was very worried about noise so thought go safe with centre resonator. I think some folks on the forum have scared me with their faint buyers remorse with units that are sans resonator. I reckons some folks are nuts... IMHO..
The Borla has great R & D behind it, they guarantee no drone, deep sound. I have had local stuff like Hi Tech (on my 996 911), beautifully made but unbearably droneful - they spent more time off than on. Must avoid. Local manufacturers in this field with this car, just can't support the R&D from their low volumes. Headers - its more about what fits - although I have written to BBK to see if they would be interested in doing shorty headers for Australia (they are cheap at <US$600 a set retail and you would just farm your std cats with a bit of welding to flanges, no O2 extensions - cheap freight because of compactness - but alas no interest ...yet... they say.

Mine will get fitted with suspension in 4-6 weeks, probably by a MR Tuning in Yatala. Got to choose those local headers yet. I'll keep folks posted.
Cheers

Has anyone done axle backs then decided to do an X or H pipe later on and then decided to do headers later on again? Would the pipe between the axle backs and mid-pipes still be sufficient and not be the next bottle neck if Headers are also fitted.

I doubt it. Most of the manufacturers should take that in consideration, unless they are forcing you to use a different cat back exhaust altogether in which case, the exhaust they are recommending, with their headers, won't be bolt on and need some adjustments, which no exhaust manufacturers will do.

Has anyone done the Borla Touring Axle Back, or heard it in person ?

I think my choice will be that system or the Loudmouth 2 by SLP.

I'm nervous about the Mod being too loud, so I think these are my best two options.

Cheers,

Paul

Hello. I am new on the forum and have been contemplating fitting a Borla s type axle back when I receive my GT auto in maybe February. What I am wondering though is, are there any published noise level readings for this system on the GT at various rpm.

Are you based in Melbourne?
MMS have an open day on September 17 and I hope to be able to hear quite a few options then. I am also after something deeper but not noisy so probably the Borla S type Axle back. I read that the Touring might be too silent with the factory resonator but I never heard one.

Yeah I'm in Victoria, and I've been emailing MMS about a few things inc suspension and exhaust Mods.

I have an outstanding invitation to visit them and go through a few things they have available.

I haven't found any readings on what you're after but in a nutshell it's well over the dB level required at 3750 RPM.

Thanks Yeah Nah. Is 3750 RPM the standard that the legal limit must be under.

Vic EPA rev it to 3750 to get their dB noise level reading.

Active exhaust systems are pricey but you can overcome this issue, IF you get pulled over by the EPA.

Don't worry, fit an aftermarket exhaust and you have 28 days to rectify the issue. That is why do not throw away your stock exhaust system.

Understand the fine in Victoria is $800

EPA and noisy cars has been in the news in Melbourne in recent days

Yep, they were out at Roxy Park. I was well aware of their gig that night. My partner works for the EPA.

Don't let the EPA deter you from a nice rumble mate.

Active exhausts are not permitted unless they are a factory feature
