Why would it be illegal?

NSW catch phrase right there!

Wouldn't surprise me if it was for pedestrian impact reasons..... bonnet shatters/splinters etc

If you rig explosives to the bonnet so it flys off of the car, in the case of impact it will probably be perfectly legal. :tsk:

(bit of back story to that, apologies if it doesn't make sense to everyone)

Took delivery yesterday! Had the dealer fit my Maganaflow Comp Cat-back. A massive shout out to Magnaflow USA and Wayne from Super Cat Converters (MF Aus) who assisted with some fitting issues. Basically, my dealer had fitted the X-Pipe upside down, which created all sorts of allignment problems. Wayne organised for one of this techs to speak to the Service Manager and they worked it out in no time after some stressful calls beforehand.

If you are looking for top-notch support for the exhaust you are going to purchase, I can highly recommend MF.

And the sound, one of the sweetest notes ive ever heard from a V8.

Apparently the carbon fibre bonnets are a grey area legally - ideally they should be complied.

The PO of my old WRX had a minor accident and needed a new bonnet. The insurance company was fine with him paying the extra to get a CF bonnet as replacement and continued to insure it.

Talk to your insurer.

I had the same unit fitted to my car yesterday and was blown away with the sound - boy does it make a big difference and certainly now sounds like a how a mustang should.

If anyone in perth is interested in this system and would like a live demo let me know:headbang:

Tony at Genie exhausts in Booragoon fitted my system - great bloke and great service.

Yes, dealership fitted the exhaust. Took them a few days to decide if they would or not, I sent them a video from CJPP to show them how easy it was and they said yes.

Ill see what I can do about a video.

Ok, so on the Richter scale of sound, how loud is it?
Forgive my ignorance but it sounds crazy loud on the videos I've seen.
Are you gonna get hassled is my point I guess....?
Love the sound btw.

Can you advise if the system is subject to drone? Thanks

I went for a ride in Race Red GT's car today and it has a Magnaflow Axle Back system. It was louder than I was expecting at idle but not in a bad way just more noticeable than I expected in a modern car. It was very deep compared to what I expected from a 5 litre. I guess the best way to describe the sound was muscle.

On the move I don't think it was overly loud at all but when he gave it a squirt in second gear it was plenty loud enough to scare the walkers along the path over the bridge we were on. When he backed off it had a few pops on the overrun but nothing over the top. He has done 6,000km with it and says it has no drone but I couldn't say as the ride was only about 10km and I was enjoying it too much to notice.

It was enough for me to consider only going for the axle back when I was considering a full system previously.

I do believe 99% of exhaust buyers in oz will find the system is louder than expected compared to any videos etc. I think the borla atak and Corsa extreme buyers are going to be a bit shocked lol.

Does anyone know of any exhausts we should be staying clear of in terms of legal sound levels (dB)? I know this will vary state to state. I haven't been able to dig up any solid info on the sound level specs of any of the exhausts.

Anyone can feel free to disagree but most of these exhausts will be illegal. Corsa extreme will be way over legal limits. Remembering in most stars they get you to rev and hold the car at 3000 rpm and there only 4 meters away to measure the DB output. I had a very mild exhaust on an old commodore and got defected. Borla sport might be borderline but anything above I reckon they are going to fail.

Having said that I am basing that on experience with Commodores.

Well you're not wrong in saying that most will be illegal, but you're way off with how it's measured haha

It's like any mods, I've put an exhaust on every car I've had for the last 20 years and have never been stopped, or tested, or attracted attention because it get one that sounds sweet, deep etc but not super loud. Loud enough to not sound stock and loud enough to be worth doing but not obnoxious.
