One thing that seems to be happening is exhausts turning out louder in real life than the videos?

How long have you had yours on?
Just wondering if yours is yet to reach the 'quieten down' phase.

I do remember putting the 3.5" exhuast from turbo back on my xr6 turbo. Was incredibly loud and droney for a while and quietened down a lot over time. Still loud, but easy to live with.
Had it on the car for about 600kms. Yeah, I can hear a slight difference already and as you say, this is pretty normal for a new system.
I'd just hate foe someone to spend thousands on a system they can't live with on a daily basis.

Yeah that does seem to be the case, even the stock was louder than I expected on cold starts, they're the worst part

Any Australian x-pipe stockists around? Or am I stuck with ordering from the US?

You can imagine how quickly I slammed it into reverse and rolled out of my driveway on Sunday, leaving at 6:30 for our cruise haha.

Thankfully it only takes me 15 minutes to get to work so I very rarely leave before 8.

Once you're moving it's really not that bad, normal driving just has a really nice tone & volume, only when I put my foot down does it blow ear drums. Don't get to do that very often though.

Had the comp CAT back, sounds bloody awesome, and yep it was loud and deep. But could not live with it as a daily drive, so cut and shut the original resonator back in, in place of the x pipe that comes with the cat back. Now this is essentially the axle back, but with the larger pipes all the way from the resonator back. Still deep, maybe even deeper or a more richer sound than the cat back, but putting the resonator back in dropped the volume in half. 11,000 km in and while I still love the sound, on longer drives it is starting to get to me. If it was not my daily drive it probably would not be an issue, so will probably end up trying something else more "liveable" :brokenheart:

So yes beware the comp CAT back, it is pretty aggressive, unless that is what you want of course.
Thats been my decision - anyone interested in a new h pipe?:D

Since this thread has been inactive for a bit, I thought I'd reignite it for those of us (me) who are interested in a more mild or conservative exhaust for their car for whatever reason.

I'm focusing more on tone with maybe only a slight increase to sound volume over stock. I do very much like the sound of the Borla S-Type AB but I do believe it is pushing the volume limit I set for myself.

From my own research, I've narrowed it down to:

- Corsa touring AB (seems pricy but good brand and those tips!)
- Ford Racing by Borla touring AB

Anyone have experience with these or have any other suggestions?

(Probably silly) side question: Does having an automatic affect drone in anyway?

Autos can labour a bit more and cause more drone but there are plenty of NO drone options.
I had simlar requirements to you and believe the Borla S would be a lot louder than you think.
I after much research decided on the Corsa Touring Axle backs and MUCH preferred the sound and tone to their cat backs and really preferred them over anything else for that matter (also no drone).
What stopped me ordering them was the rediculous price!! If you can justify the price you can't go wrong.
I ended up ordering SLP Loudmouth 2's as I also liked the deep, not too loud tone and they were cheap. I may run them indefinatly I may also just keep them until I've heard a heap of catbacks on cars and see if one stands out as exactly what I want and it's priced right. I don't want to buy a $2500 catback off a YouTube video....been there done that too many times.

A friend has the Borla axle backs on his auto and is very happy....standing behind the car a little bit quiet for me but Pony Parts Design on the Gold Coast have them
