They are likely lying and have stopped reporting most cases. Or, they've stopped testing. Either way, they've stopped doing something to make it appear to the world they have it under control. China, a nation of 1.4 billion people, had been stuck on 81,XXX total Covid 19 cases for over a week. No way that's possible. Either they are lying, stopped reporting, and/or stopped/severely slowed testing for it.

Probably using the low quality tests they sold to Italy. "Look, they are all negative. Problem solved"

@Docscurlock good article on the fight for strategic influence... https://www.wsj.com/articles/russia...avirus-and-mark-a-political-shift-11585647002

“The images released by the Russian Defence Ministry were unprecedented. Russian and Italian generals gathered around a map of the Italian peninsula, plotting the route of a Russian convoy. Military vehicles, flying Russian flags and emblazoned with "From Russia with Love" in Italian, Russian and English, were shown driving across Italy to the northern city of Bergamo.

Yet President Putin took the time to score points in his quest to weaken Western alliances’, at a time when aid from Italy's allies in NATO and the EU was nowhere to be seen,” writes the Wall Street Journal, also speaking of a “moment of initial disarray within the EU and NATO”.

"We, the West, allowed this perception of a lack of help in looking out for each other," said retired former commander of the US Army Europe Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges. "This created an opportunity for the Kremlin, and for the Chinese Communist Party, to step in, to fill that vacuum”.

Many of these initial wrinkles have been ironed out by now with numerous bi-lateral and multi-lateral aid of nations helping each other such as France, Germany and Austria delivering 3.6 million masks to Italy. Germany's air force started flying critically ill Italian patients to German hospitals, and Poland sent medics to Brescia.

Yet all that did little to alter many Italians' perceptions that their country had been abandoned. It is not clear to what extent Russia's aid mission will help. A significant part of the Russian contingent is made up of specialists in biological warfare decontamination—something of limited use in the current pandemic.

Still, while providing the Russian soldiers with military escorts, to make sure they do not move on their own, the Italian government effusively thanked Putin. If the Russian aid was not of much use by itself, an Italian official added, its high-profile arrival at least helped spur Italy's traditional allies into action."

Absolutely, maybe if our own press and liberals would stop hounding the President and provide a united front against CV19, we would get over it faster and be able to use our own influence. If you have amazon books kindle service, I have been reading a book series lately that is definately fiction but has been hitting close to home (the US) home. It is called "Rigged" by James Rosone. A little farfetched but when you are trying to stay somewhat isolated it makes a good time waster.

It is a mistake to associate this with our press. Russia is dealing with their own internal issues, while focusing, at the same time, on increasing their influence and decreasing ours abroad. They are playing chess while we play checkers. In addition to winning favor in Italy and elsewhere, while eroding our influence, they are about to start providing supplies to us!! "From Russia with Love." In the meantime, we are worried about the battle between Fox, CNN, MSNBC, and other such businesses.

Again, nobody came to the circus to watch the clown juggle one ball!

I am familiar with "Rigged." It is so lacking in reality it's not even entertaining. Then again, there aren't a lot of "war movies" that I actually enjoy either, so I admit my bias.

So we are doomed. I will just wrap myself up in a cocoon and wait to see which foreign government steps on me.

It's a little entertaining, c'mon the damn Canadians are attacking through my backyard (Port Huron). I've always thought they couldn't be trusted.

Not doomed, just being outplayed. We need to get our act together.

Yeah, you know those crafty Canucks. They're always up to something sneaky...when they're not selling beer to our under-21s!

If you haven't read it, you may be interested in "Like War" by Singer and Brooking. It has a slight bias to it, but only slight. More important, the facts are well supported. Recommend adding it to the Kindle list.

I will look into it, I usually don't waste time reading "shoot em up" fiction but desperate times call for desperate you know what......

With proper training and safe use, yes. Alcohol, not so much

In regards to the original question I'm not sure what is truthful from China or not. I don't see the point of lying about it but I suppose they could be. On the other hand they used some pretty draconian tactics with their population to stem the tide. So it's possible it largely halted if their citizens were locked up and either came out on their feet or on a slab once the required period of time had passed. I suspect the West will pay a higher price in lives lost in order to have freedom which includes allowing some foolish folks to have the right to do things that put more people at risk. I'm not advocating for the Chinese approach either.
