Can't shave it down, it's already thin which is why it rattles so easilyCan you shave down the backside of the factory grill to keep it from making contact? I would do that then it will appear stock from the outside. I don't like to advertise what is installed in the car, like high dollar speakers. That just gives the opportunist a reason to break into your car, if they don't see anything that they can get money from, they move on.
I know how to swap out the speakers. I’ve already done it like three times. My door panel is currently off. I’m just trying to find out if the grill that’s part of the door panel can be removed.I swamped out my factory speakers with kicker speakers, there is a process to it, cant remember though, look at you-tube videos for installing after market speakers in mustang front doors.

thanks I might try that. I already put some foam tape around the edge of the grill, going to try that first. Assume it will accomplish the same thing. Picture below. I installed JBL GT0609. Significantly bigger magnet. Not sure it will make much difference with the stock amp, but it can’t hurt. If I decide to do an amp later I should be good.Try this before you do anything to the door panel. Cutting the door panel would be a last resort.
Get some of those foam rings that go around the outside edge of the speakers. Use one that is thick enough to put some pressure on the backside of the door panel. It should stop the speaker from hitting it and it will create a nice seal to allow all the sound to go through the grille. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/FAST-Rings-3-Piece-Speaker-Enhancement/dp/B016LFVKHY
Can you post pictures of your speakers? What did you install?
Try adding the foam to the outside edge of the speaker and not on the door panel. The speaker cone and surround may be hitting the foam as you have it on the door panel. There's no way to ensure you have clearance between them. So try the foam rings or make your own from strips and hot glue the ends together so it creates a tight fit around the perimeter of the mounting ring. I have done this on other cars with excellent results.thanks I might try that. I already put some foam tape around the edge of the grill, going to try that first. I already had film on the outside edge of the speaker. I believe it’s the raised perimeter of the speaker that is hitting. Don’t know what that’s called exactly. The foam I put on the grill will probably contact that raise perimeter, but hopefully it won’t affect sound much if at all. If it doesn’t work, I will get those foam things that you posted. You like the Powerbass? If I can't get the JBL to fit, I may go with them since they are a direct swap.Fast rings are legit, I have the piece behind it, and behind and around the magnet too, and in front, I had to reduce thickness of front a hair but they firm. Plenty supportive. No rattles
I tossed dynamat in first then I tossed some ensolite over it, and between abt plastic to plastic or metal to plastic surface. No vibrations from my bass or sub
