im coming from a modded 4 cyl turbo car. can't wait to be back to a v8 again.

modding a car does nothing for its value. i've learned to just get something that's already awesome out of the box, and do minor mods like catback/intake.

that way, when you get bored of the car in 3 years like i always do, you don't waste as much money.

If you have to look at your money, than I assume it should be for you the EcoBoost engine - with all the upgrades you like and you still save some money. I did choose the EB Premium with PP and automatic. I do not race at all but I do know, if you like to go on a track 10 times in a year - some MODS on a EcoBoost could bring some V8's on the track in trouble. As you wrote. You like to go maybe on a track, there are so many TUNERS working on some very affordable upgrades. But if you consider to go every weekend on a track - get a plain V8 with PP and later a charger. I am on the other side would later not buy a used S550 with charger because I would know the car was abused on a track. And again. You have not always to listen what other people are saying. You have to drive the car and live with it later on.

The 4 cylinder turbo will get cruddy mileage if driven hard. If this is your intent, don't expect to see significant mileage gains over the V8. Also, if you mod the 4 turbo, and give it a tune, again, the mileage will not be good.

For those asking ...these are the things I took from various articles that IMPLY TO ME that the EB has better handling, feel, etc. The one from Autoblog.ca just has just a big group of positives for the EB so thats why that section is so big.
Thanks for going through all the work of piecing this together. I'm honestly surprised by how glowing that Autoblog review is in particular. My judgement from other reviews was that you 1) need to get the performance package with either EB or GT to get a car that's pleasant at the limit, and 2) with the PP equipped, a lot of authors didn't notice as much of a difference as they were expecting between the EB and GT given the weight difference. The issue was that the EB lack top-end and the torque to make it throttle adjustable mid-corner. But these reviews are definitely different than what I've seen, so I'm glad I got the insight.

It's a shame that the Autoweek quote compares a GT on A/S, aka non-PP, to an EB on summers, aka PP-equipped.

Preciate it. :)

The best deal performance wise is a base GT w/PP. No two ways about it. You can come up with a series of excuses and justifications but that is the bottom line.

Meh, depends on how important the diff between maybe a few tenths of a second to 60 is important to folks. They're both really fast. I doubt most buyers will ever take their car to the track or time their 0-60s.

Even with a tune, the turbo I4 will still get better mileage until you get to insane levels of boost. If you swap turbos, pushing back boost, you'll actually even out the gains versus the fuel economy at lower RPMs. The reason the current ecoboost doesn't get much more mpgs than the v8 is the low time to torque you get with the quick spool, leading into boost at very low (2300) RPM. If you push that spool to later RPMs, you'll get the I4 fuel economy until around 3300-3500 RPM with comparable power later in the torque band.

All I'm saying is, is that unlike the naturally aspirated V6, this car can get comparable power for cheaper with better fuel economy. The resale will go down, yes, unless you are in a crowd of people that actually understand the vehicle and the engine. This I4 is historically a very stout engine, add in forged internals and with the right crowd of people I don't see this car dropping much value with mods. Similar to the Mitsubishi Evo and Subaru WRX STI crowds.

Thanks for compiling all of that, was a good read. While the ecoboost is no doubt a great car, still haven't seen any review that would sway me from the GT. :)

NP OPPO.

There are even more..didn't have time to go through everyone. There are also more tidbits in the video reviews.

Can't get the base GT in auto with PP.

The EB driven hard was getting around 22 MPG. The GT driven hard was getting in the 14's.

That's still damn good for the EB.

Its V8 for me
I have loved American cars all my life and never dreamed I would own one. I watch films and marval at all the v8s running around the streets. I went on holiday to the states and was picked up at the airport by a mini bus, powered by a v8!!! a minibus!!
I was picked up in taxis powered by V8s
I have books on American cars on my book shelf. Most are V8s. My all time favorite car is the 57 Chevy, with a V8 (sorry Ford fans).
Now I have worked my butt off with my business and I am in the position to buy an American icon. The ecoboost could be faster for all I care but there will only be one engine under the bonnet (hood) of my Stang and thats a purring, thundering V8
I will be living the dream everytime I start her up!
My international friends have always helped me see the USA in profound ways, thank you for your lending perspective, makes me smile.

I considered the GT at first but after reading the reviews and seeing test drives, I'll be going with the EcoBoost. Coming from a Camaro that gets 14 mpg, the added mpg and HP of the EcoBoost will be a nice change.

Yeah it's very hard to pass up that horsepower and low-end torque while getting nice gas mileage also. I mean if you don't plan to track your GT every weekend nor push it on open roads all the time I just don't see the value of that much money on GT just for the sound of the engine.
