I had one many years ago. The carburetors were the only real issue I had. Performance was anemic, but that's normal for the late 70s and 80s. It was not as agile as the 240Z. You may encounter significant rust, so look very carefully.
I put quite a few miles on a 1983ZX in the mid 80's. Nice car. Much more of a touring car with nice power band than the more nimble 240. If you can find one with no rust or damage history you will probably enjoy it, especially if the two of you are travelling with it. The '83 I drove had lifters that needed adjusted on occasion which was no big deal. I found that the original struts were pretty quick to go soft and were replaced early on. Before they were replaced the rear end would really squat as you went through the gears. If I recall correctly, It had Bosch fuel injection that was pretty sweet.
