My desktop is a lunar photo from a photographer who took hundreds of closeups and stitched them together. Its amazing... and an absolute huge file

Definitely good image!

What's everyone using for telescopes?

There's so many varieties online makes it hard to choose...

I don't have any fancy gear but do enjoy taking pictures of the moon with what I have. I'd like to pick up the hobby of astrophotography and get more serious with it. I took these tonight.

Great First Quarter moon shots...!!!!!!

I had to learn the eight phases of the moon in High School, and I have always remembered them.
And I was in High School when they were using "Preparation-B".
Actually, when I was in High School, my good friend who helped me study for the test on the moon phases, Galileo Galilei, was called to the principles office because there was some government group not happy with his thoughts on some "center of the universe thingy"... apparently he pissed some folks at the Vatican off.

Like many the title fooled me! But I'll chime in.

A small selection of mine from the past year or so. I'm still experimenting/learning. I have a Canon EOS 77D, and an adapter to fit it to my travel Celestron telescope.

But I thought the moon, like the sun, was a construct created by the evil puppet masters still trying to make us believe the globe we live on isn't flat....Completely kidding of course. Nice pics!

I work with a high ranking member of the Flat Earth Society and we enjoy messing with him every chance we get. One of his experiments involved the moon. He had a thermal gun and measured the temp of an item shielded by the moon's light vs unshielded. Never mind actual scientific things like proximity and wind currents. Anyway, he concluded the moon's light actually cools things down. So we have a satellite work building that is always cooler in summer months due to location. We now contribute the cooler temps to "moon tiles" on the roof.

I used to be into astronomy pretty heavy. The best views of the Moon I ever had was one clear, clean night at a 15" f/12 refractor. Yes, legit refractor. I worked at an observatory.

We had triple barlows and some big TeleVue lens. The view was like flying over the Moon. It seemed as you were inside a crater looking up at the crater walls. Totally mind blowing and a rare, rare event. The seeing was perfect.

I was big into astrophotography many years ago.

Unfortunately I fucked up and lost many years of my pictures. All of my pictures.

Still have my Orion 8" Newtonian with a tracking base.

Can anyone recommend a good telescope that has not only great visual/distance capabilities, is tripod mounted, but also one where a cell phone can be connected to it to take images?

I’ve tried looking online, but there are sooooooo many types/brands/reviews it makes it difficult to make a solid pick.

I used to love astronomy, years ago, when I lived in a small town in upper Michigan. But, there is too much light pollution around here now... you can barely make out most of the stars.
