Night and day, my friend. No comparison.
Well they are both round and black...

A good set of tires will a poor driver feel like The Stig. ;)

Our local track won't let anyone except advanced run group use R comps. I don't know if that's nationwide, or if that applies when the car comes standard with R comps. You may want to check into that. If you're only street driving, don't worry about switching tires. MPSSs are great street tires.

How much better are the Cup 2's better than the MPSS?
MPSS are excellent for street use but garbage on the track - don't let anyone tell you different.

Your local track group might be the only one in the world that has that rule. I'm assuming they think R compounds are silent like slicks which is false. They give plenty of indication when you are sliding. I ran R comps at every event in the SouthEast when I was a beginner too - no issues with tech on that.

Keep in mind I was basically doing a 1/2 mile drag race. I'm sure I could have built heat into them on a road course.
Ahh ok yah I don't know squat about drag racing - I do the road circuits.

I must assume the context of your OP question is for street use. I would not use R compound tires on the street ever. They are not sufficiently mechanically robust to tolerate typical crappy street surfaces, potholes, etc.

I have been to many tracks in the SE US and have never heard of such an exclusion (can't use R compound tires).

My 350 will be only used on track and I will only run Hoosiers, or similar. I may sell the SC2 Michelin tires as take offs when I get the car (or maybe after I burn 1000 break in miles :D ). I have no use for them and they are way too expensive

Sorry guys. I just wanted to put that out there based on my experience. I'm glad it's usually a non-issue.

I'll be keeping the factory wheels and tires as a group and my 6GR wheels in R specs I will run R compounds on. Haven't decided 100% on sizes but the factory R MPSC2s are definitely a front runner

Lots of tires available in a 305/30-19, so I will probably get a second set of wheels with some Toyo R-888s for track use (not the stickiest out there, but they last a decent amount of time, at least on my 350Z, and the price is pretty good).
