Title says it all? Some people said Ford upgraded them, some people are still doing them on 18s just wondering if there have been any documented failures yet?

I think most people change them to prevent (before) failure. They have not been upgraded to billet from OEM if that what your asking. Oil gear failure almost always kills the motor.

I’m sure ford would like you to believe everything is new and better.
Sadly my ford dealers parts dept tells me the oils cooler is unchanged between my old my17 and the new better in every way (except the oil cooler) my18.
If ford couldn’t be bothered fixing the known faulty oil cooler that breaks on totally stock cars within the warranty, or fixing the well known air con problems, I would not trust them to invest any money in stronger opg’s where the old part was perfectly suitable for non boosted cars as they roll out of the factory.

My understanding is that they are the same. You will get varying opinions on whether you need to change them out or not if you go boosted. If staying NA, the stock OPG's are fine. Hell, I'm at 700+ hp on stock OPG with no problems at all, but then again I'm not spending alot of time bouncing off the rev limiter either.

OPG are unchanged, but improved balancing. plenty of people boosted on stock OPG, majority of people without oil cooling issues or ac issues. Ford needs a quality improvement more than inventing new parts. if anything they should be focused on the mt82.

This is key. The majority of OPG failures on stock to mild setups are from harmonics during normal operation and/or bouncing off the rev limiter. With the Gen 3 comes a new viscous damper which is going to help "dampen" the harmful harmonics that may kill the gears.

It's not foolproof, but it's better than the Gen 1 and 2s. Unless you plan on higher red line, boost or abusing the rev limiter you will be fine with the stock ones.
