I am a geographer by formal education, and I typically say that I was born 20 degrees too far north (which would otherwise have put me on the Tropic of Cancer) but now I can also say I was born 87 degrees too far west (which otherwise would have put me around Monte Carlo). Some interesting facts otherwise. I like the one about the Panama Canal. Probably another bar trick to get a free drink would be to ask what direction you have to travel to get from the Atlantic side to the Pacific side, as undoubtedly 99% would answer "west".
