Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding my TPMS. I just installed my new wheels and tires on my ‘16 Ecoboost Premium. Over the winter I had them mounted and balanced along with what I thought were OEM TPMS sensors installed. Unfortunately due to the quarantine situation today was really the first day I was able to take it out for a ride. After about 20 minutes the TPMS fault came up so I went back to place that did the mounting and balancing. They tried to program them but the new kid was clueless and couldn’t figure it out. I left annoyed and stopped by my local Mavis. Once at Mavis the tech was able to sync and program them in a few minutes. On my ride home, about 10 miles, one by one the tire pressure started to appear on my dash. The only problem is my right front tire shows no reading and all the rest are accurate. My dash indicator light isn’t on, no warning but no reading from my right front. I have driven it another 30 miles and still nothing on that tire but all the others are still correct. I called Mavis and he said they will need to replace that sensor at $75.00 plus tax, yea...no.

Any ideas?

Thanks as always!

Sounds like you might have your answer. Maybe that one is bad.

It could be. Before I spend money on a new one and have to have anyone break the bead on a brand new wheel and tire, I was hoping someone may have a way to check or some insight.

Deive at least 100-120 miles before giving up on a sensor. Thats about how long it takes for the computer to throw a fault if a sensor is not syncing.

Programming tool is ~$30 on ebay... if you want something done right, do it yourself.

Probable hi-jack here, But was wonder your opinion Nightmare on this; On my 18 base GT, (with the 255/40/19's) I am almost ready to put my bigger tire and wheel order in, ( 285/35/19's on 19x10's) +35. Question is, do I really have to put in TPM's? Wondering why I just can't put regular valve stems in? wouldn't the wheels take less weight doing this? (balancing) I pretty sure the low tire light would always be on, but what else would the car not like? I drive trucks for a living and check tires all the time on vehicles, so it's not a big deal, but I don't want to hurt any car electronics either. Car is at stock ride height, and will not be lowered, just some occasional drag racing, and definitely want a better-looking wheel! I appreciate all advice on this!! p.s. this is for summer months only here in Mn. the stock skinnies go would go back on when temps dictate.

you don’t have to use them, but you’ll have a warning light permanently on the dash. They’re very lightweight, less than an oz I would guess so its a very small factor in wheel weight.

Tire pressure sensors are a good feature and fo help you identify small punctures and leaks before they’re a big problem. IDK, I like using them, its typically default center dash display actually.
