Another Mustang theft topic.

God dammit. Don't like these posts...whilst I am quietly confident theft in my area is not going to happen, I realize that my Mustang is sat at home today, on the driveway (drove the Fiesta to work), all alone, keys in the house :doh:

I think I will start taking the keys with me everywhere! Or get one of those protective "faraday" cage boxes/bags & hide them somewhere in the house seems extreme & I don't like to do it but I would feel a fool if someone stole it & I hadn't taken any precautions!

The problem is they don't need your keys to nick it, that's why I have my concerns.

Don't need keys to nick any car if you're a good enough thief really... Same issue for all cars.

All they have to do is break the window without setting the alarms off, some cars have blind spots so the alarm won't sound if they keep as close to the door as possible, they then pug their thingy into the OBD port open the door and press the start button.....car gone, it's that quick, no keys needed. If you remove the fuse on the Fiesta it means they have to reach into the car to plug another in but by doing this it means they'll set the alarms off, I was hoping the Mustang might have a fuse just for the OBD port but it's looking unlikely, like I said though couldn't you just remove the starter motor fuse if you aren't using the car that much???????

you can just remove the battery if you don't use it that much, they're going nowhere without that, and the OBD isn't going to be running without the battery in the car, just dont leave the battery in the same place as the car :headbonk:.

I guess the other option is to take the wires out of the back of the OBD port plug, i'm sure a Ford main dealer can fix them back in when the car needs to be checked or serviced.

Did think off that but then you wouldn't be able to lock the doors after you've removed the batt.

Depends where you park your car, i thought the locks had seperate 'power sources' along with other things, but this maybe urban myth :lol:!

If my car was unlocked in my garage, but couldn't be started as it needed a battery, big deal, take the sunglasses if you can find the sunglasses holder, otherwise, there's nothing else in there !

You might cause more issues removing the battery for long periods of time. The Ecu may loose parameters. Not 100% sure on this. Too much faff for me. If I wanted to take my car for a quick spin but had to get a tool kit out before I start I wold find excuses not to drive it.

Good Point, mine will be stabled in her shed....ok garage, sadly though not everyone is going to be that lucky.

On the 2015 Mustang RHD the first OBD port is just there fully exposed at shin level in a normal driving position but for me any attempt at simple electronics will end in disaster because I can't quite get my head in-between the accelerator pedal and the passenger compartment fuse box to see what I am doing. Awkward to say the least.

To impede the casual thief who might have a magic box of tricks I would like to fit an OBD lock from http://sailesmarketing.com/product-category/obdsaver/ and www.obdsaver.de but first someone needs to try a few to see what fits best on the Mustang. I did mention this in another thread so sorry to repeat.

Another advantage of the OBD lock is that it stops anyone with ad-hoc access to your car such a car washer or valet using it to copy a key and then come back take the car off the driveway (assuming this trick can be done and I don't know if it can).

I think what we're all looking for is a Mad Max type anti theft device - if I can't have it, no fkers gonna have it sadly illegal.....
