How long does it take for your A/C to get cold after sitting parked in the hot sun all day?

I work in a downtown area. I crank up my car, roll down all the windows and start heading towards the interstate. About 4 or 5 miles of stop and go traffic lights. Car will not cool off (100 degree day yesterday for example)
I put the windows up after the first mile to get out the really hot air. My vents are blowing barely cool air, but you can feel it progressively getting cooler.

Once I get on the open road running 50+ MPH, it hits that ice cold temp and things cool down quickly.

I don't remember it taking so long for it to cool off when it was new. I don't want to waste the dealerships time if it is normal, but I'm pushing 32,000 miles and I want it looked at ASAP if this is a problem. I remember my '95 GT acting like this when the freon was low.

Should be blowing cold air in 30 seconds.
If yours only blow cold air when the rpm is higher, your refrigerant is low.

This was a symptom in the evaporator core leaks (twice) in my GT350. You seem to have a low refrigerant level and the evaporator assembly is a likely suspect of the leak. Other symptoms of evap core defects may include a "wheezing" sound in the blower, blowing warmer air from a vent and colder from another, a strange or sweet smell in the cabin, and a film-like white haze in the windshield. You are about a week or two away before it stops blowing cold air altogether. Get it tested for leaks asap before the warranty runs out for what would be an expensive repair.

I had both these issues.

Just called my dealership. Quickest they could get me in is the 29th. :frusty: Appointment made. Must be a line of them in front of me.
Hope it holds up. I mentioned the evap issue to the service writer and he agreed with me.
