Pretty normal for an aluminum block to do that.

I have done this on prior Mustangs:

1) Wash engine bay down (Simple Green works well)

2) Dry (let engine run w/ hood closed for at least a good 15-20 mins)

3) Get WD40 - the metal can with a spray tip (not the "windex" style spray bottles). Spray the WD40 lightly onto the aluminum parts; you do not need to saturate the parts. You can spray directly onto engine OR onto a towel and then wipe the parts down. If spraying directly, after you have sprayed, start the car, let it run for about 5 mins to burn off any residual WD40. Not a "literal" burn, but it bakes off any excess and no, you will not start any fires.

The WD40 will repel any water (or condensation), repels dirt/dust and it also protects the aluminum from the corrosive effects of daily use and atmosphere fallout. It works extremely well for daily drivers as well as vehicles that are stored for periods of time.

You will notice after using it a couple of times there will not be any white oxidation "dust" on the aluminum surfaces and the aluminum will look clean all the time. Your engine bay will also look good for any car shows and it will be easier to clean the next time around,

WD40 is also safe for any painted surface, so if you get any overspray on anything it will easily wipe off without harming the surface.

I've done the above for YEARS on all of my vehicles without any detrimental effects.

The attached image is of my 94 Cobra engine bay as it looks today. If I didn't tell you all, you wouldn't believe it has almost 145k original miles and was driven in every season up until 2007. The engine has never been out of the car and the attached aluminum parts/accessories are all original and look as new as they were right out of their parts bins back in 94...LOL.

I did the above process every time I washed the car (so about 1x a week). The WD40 not only protects the metal, but also any other surfaces such as plastics and rubber surfaces/components.

You don't need a slew of the most expensive name brand detailing shit, just some good old smarts and use of existing products available anywhere. :)

Any old shite.
I don't know if you guys can get this in the states but it's amazing stuff and ideal for this issue.

A step up from WD40, a lot of all weather bikers use it, spray it on, ride all winter through salt etc and when it's washed off it's like new underneath.
It goes on thinly and can't be seen once it has dried.
It also actually removes small amounts of existing corrosion.
It really is great stuff.

Just be warned, that using simple green to clean bare aluminum can cause further corrosion.

Why not just clean it with the WD-40? I used to use this stuff like quick detailer but on mechanical parts and machines.
