Thoughts?

For me, it's not a mustang. Mine is a daily driver. I love it for what it is, a cheap (when I got mine!), flawed, muscle car that for all that doesn't pretend it's anything else. Yes it could handle better, could have better cabin plastics and build quality, but it just is what it is. Take it or leave it, your choice.

I'm not against electric cars, like it or not they are the future and our particular brand of horsepower's days are numbered but they should be just that, futuristic, not some cheesy pastiche of the way things used to be.

As for the fake sounds, why? When it all becomes too politically incorrect I'll be converting mine to hydrogen :)

If they want to reduce pollution then reduce car use, will also help with the now numerous traffic jams. Either increase tax or set a quota. The carbon footprint to produce an electric car is high.

Saw a similar story not long ago, see https://charge.cars/ - that's ÂŁ200k for a Mustang. What happened to fast, fun & affordable? There's another company in the US "Revology Cars" rebuilding officially licensed 60's Mustangs, from scratch, at a similar price point, modern components but built as they would have been in the 60's - that's more of a Mustang to me.

For me, these conversions are all a bit of a novelty. Very impressive yes, would I buy one? Depends on what you'll do with it I guess, but I wouldn't. Is it a true Mustang? Not for me... part of the Mustang charm is their sheer simplicity in comparison to todays cars and of course the drama and soul of the powerful, shouty v8. You could argue our 2015's are not true Mustangs with all the mod cons. Of course I feel mine is true Mustang, but it doesn't stop me dreaming of a classic - it's a different kettle of fish.

Very interesting article I read yesterday about the future of electric performance vehicles https://www2.motorauthority.com/news/1119902_is-the-2018-mustang-gt-the-end-of-a-performance-era well worth a read.

Interesting point you make @tooley about yours being a daily. That's feasible, almost practical in todays world, but in our lifetimes that may change. Daily drivers will be electric in the not too distant future - that's where the biggest reduction in reliance on combustion engine cars will come from. Our performance/collectible cars will remain for a good while longer but for use as a daily, i'm sure it won't be this easy in another 20 years or so. That won't stop me though!

I look forward to what Ford have in store for an electric Mustang in the future, I'm sure it will be great, but it will never be what the classics are, and neither is "better", just different. But still Mustangs IMO

Would I buy/drive an electric Mustang? Probably not. I always thought it would be a lifelong thing, Mustang ownership, until I got one. I still intend to take it as far as I practically can however if the powers make it financially unviable I reckon I could now bow out having scratched the itch. I suspect there will be always be ways to own a fossil-fuelled Stang however, at least for my lifetime.

If they want to reduce pollution then reduce car use, will also help with the now numerous traffic jams. Either increase tax or set a quota. The carbon footprint to produce an electric car is high.
This is true, however I always get the feeling governments are just looking for the sweet spot - extracting as much tax out of us without actually making us give up and go green. You want to try to get anywhere by public transport up here in NE Scotland. Major industrial park just south of Aberdeen, the oil capital of Europe. Want to get there by train? One stops in the morning and one stops at the end of the day. That's yer lot.

I'll reserve judgement till i've actually seen it... But i'm a sucker for speed, so offering it as a different engine; why not.. gives people options, fits this worldwide steer towards electric vehicles etc.

No one ever got goose bumps from the exhaust note on a Tesla...There's a dry humor angle to ponder on the topic.
