I was advised by my dealer that the Ford Australia support program for the evaporator runs for 5 years from the date of sale. Mine was purchased in Oct 2016 and I have been having some ongoing AC issues. They have added a dye to my gas and topped it up. They said that we have until Oct this year (5 years) to try and pin it down (to the evaporator). I have had two recent trips to the dealer to attempt to diagnose it and I haven't been charged for either visit. They asked me to wait a month or two and bring it back. My car was sold and has been serviced by the same dealer. You may want to get it into a dealer before your 5 years elapses next month....
So I've devised a plan of attack, ford couldn't get my car in for another week and as this is now my daily which is about 3-5 hours a day on the road, I couldn't wait that long. So I've managed to get it in to a AC specialist on Monday morning for a check and gas with dye. Rego is due in just under 6 weeks so in about 4 weeks I'll book it in for rego check (I think rego checks start after 5 years, not 100% sure) and service as it will be about due by then, and get them to check it out while its in there.

One thing I do have going for me is my Brother is a mobile mechanic and auto electrician. I chatted to him about and he said he hasn't played around with a mustang dash but ford has been making the dashes more modular over the years, he said it won't be easy but it's not as bad as like the old ef/el falcons.

If you are hoping for Ford to authorise an out of warranty repair, there is no way I would allow a third party to mess with it until the dealer has taken a look.

A week isn't too bad in the scheme of things.

@Socold what's your motivation for taking it to an AC place? I'm with @Drewbo and would suggest caution if the idea is to use their findings to leverage Ford in any way, although if you're using it to obtain a rapid diagnosis to inform the dealership no worries if you're prepared to wear it out of your own pocket.

Update, AC dude used a sniffer and found a leak in the front condenser so no warranty fixed for me. He used the sniffer internally and found nothing coming out of the vents so it appears the evap is ok at the moment.

He also made comment mine was number 4 mustang in the last 2 weeks.

Ford should fix a condenser at no cost to you under ACL as it should pretty much last the life of the car, or at least longer than yours has. Do you know if the leak was at a joint? Any accident damage visible to front end or repair to the condenser? What year is yours?

First registered March 2016, so almost 5 years.
The front end wasnt removed, the sniffer was inserted in through the grill so I couldnt see the actual damage. The guy said it could be a joint but it also could have been a small rock, one of the other mustangs he had in was the same thing which ford wouldnt replace on warranty.

As for possible front end damage the records came back clean when I got it but googling the rego number did show up the pic below, the under tray etc looks undamaged but they had it off for some reason.

That's a bugger Al, looks like it might be damage related then either from impact or subsequent repair. Still might be worth a tilt at Ford in case it's not or they're feeling generous, costs nothing to ask.

The Googling of rego is interesting, good find can I ask what type of site you found it on? Looks like it's at a repairer but I've never known them to post images much less with rego details, was it for sale at the time?

Thats the strange part, the image found is connected to a website for upholstery work in bangalore. So I have no idea when it was taken.

My aircon cooling stopped suddenly while driving today in 23 degrees. Hot out of all vents. It is a 2017MY GT that has only done 1,612 km. Hope it is something simple that does not involve pulling the dash out. Booked into dealer for check in 2 weeks as it is the first appt available. I am expecting Ford will do the honourable thing with a goodwill warranty on such low km.

Good news it was a simple issue of a sensor connector disconnected.

Hate to be bringing this thread up again but, took the Stang out for a cruise on a spectacular day for the first day of spring and no aircon! Very weak passenger side and only warm air on drivers side.
Ford were happy to cover the dash out evap replacement out of warranty 11 months ago at 14500k's. So now just over 2000K's later have it booked in for Tues 14th to probably go through the whole thing again. Not happy about potentially second removal of the dash or having to wait to find out that Ford will do the right thing!

I had the same thing happen to me and turned out to be the compressor so hopefully something like that and not the whole dash out bs
