It is not a venturi in the tube however the airaid airbox has a venturi bell mouth where the filter clamps on. In the tube it is a molded in insert that is the same diameter of the stock maf simply so that the computer requires no tuning to run it.

Wondering why they molded it on this time and previously built it as a removable piece.

Wait!?! What!?! I told AM MONTHS ago that their tuning form had that option to remove the insert on the Airaid intake, even though the current Airaid's have the MVT inserts molded permanently to the intake tube. They said they would update the form so that others would know what to expect. Hell, they even sent me a T-shirt for spotting it. I talked to an Airaid representative about 3 weeks ago and asked what the best way to remove the insert was and he recommended a Dremel with a small cutting wheel.

Between having to cut something that I was going to sell anyway when I supercharge my car, and not knowing the inner diameter of the MAF housing once the insert was removed, I just sold the damn thing and bought a JLT.
I was preparing to do the same thing but thinking about going with either the Steeds or JTL. Did you notice any difference over the Airaid with the JTL?

Must be something new they are doing. I've already cut a few out and adjusted the maf curve for it, there are small gains to be had from doing it.
Small gain? How much? Should I get the Steeda or JLT b/c they make more power? Let me know b/f I go through the trouble. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I did... a ridiculous difference in the seat and on the dyno. But you have to tune the car with a JLT as well, and I had just recently done headers, too. So is it the intake, or the tune? I'm going with the tune, ...a tune that has a little more headroom because of the intake. I had also switched tuners as well (Bama to Lund), which in my opinion also contributed to the gain.

I have stated this before on another thread. I tried running my Airaid on a Lund tune designed for a JLT and my car wouldn't stay on. It would start, bog, and then die. Just switching the intakes out made it purr like a kitten.

Yes running a tune designed for a jlt intake with an airaid would run like complete crap, the maf transfer needs to be correct for each intake.

Yeah, I knew this already from prior cars. The problem was I filled out the form for my tune incorrectly and ended up with a JLT tune when I had an Airaid at the time. Looked over everything with Lund and saw the error.

That's why I ended up running crappy for a day.

What the inside diameter of the Airaid with the sleeve cut out compared to the JLT?

Like I mentioned early in this thread about 108mm with the sleeve cut out. The newer jlt's I think are 115, I'm sure they could confirm that.

Livernois sells the kit with the insert already removed called the severe windstorm. However, don't bother asking them about the maf size, they require you to purchase thier tuner and tuning. Yes, after spending the $442.87 (including shipping) they basically tell you to hump a stump on the maf size. I'll never buy anything from them ever again.
