I've been trying to research options for hitting the track next year. I've never had any kind of camera or logging setup and just am curious if there's any consensus on what to get, or what's sure to work with the GT350.

I don't trust my phone's GPS (android) so while just getting an app would be cheapest I feel like I want something more dedicated and reliable. Both the Aim Solo 2 DL and Autosport RaceCapture MK2 seem like pretty solid options, is there a reason one is 400 more than the other? Both seem to do pretty much the same stuff, is the Aim one that much better or easier to use? Is there a difference in review software? Also if I want to just try using my phone as a camera, what's the easiest way to get the video to record with overlays? Or do I just do that later on my computer? Of course if there's any completely different options that you think are a better value that's great too. I'm a total newb with this stuff!

Also any mounting suggestions would be helpful as well...

the phone thing works well enough. Just get a blue-tooth 10hz GPS dongle and TrackAddict or similar software. SOme of it will auto-overlay. Otherwise it's post-processing.

The AIM System will be the better piece of kit & have better software. If I were using either, I'd mount it on the wheel.

Side note, if I were doing this, I'd have a look at the Aim MXM, too.

As near to the car's CG is probably best for the Aim unit. I mounted mine to a piece of metal that I bent to stand the Aim unit up vertically, and the bent metal is stuck to the dash using Velcro (and a pair of separate tethers). The Aim and the Aeroforce come off at the end of each track day. Also shown is my other camera mount.

As a part-time track toy I'm fine with it looking the way it looks.

You'll want to use Race Render to overlay the data over the video. Spend the $50 and get the good version.

What's the difference, is it just the additional more dash-like functions?
The MXM can take separate inputs, not just a CAN stream. It can also control outputs to operate things like fans & pumps.

Does this have internal accelerometers?

Yes I'm pretty sure these lap timers use internal sensors in addition to GPS and the car's own data to do their ultimate calculations

"Inertial platform : Internal 3 axis ±5G accelerometer + 3 axis gyro + 3 axis magnetometer"

so the steering wheel probably not best mounting place haha

I don't know, how fast I jerk the wheel seems like a valid datastream. :)
I guess I won't be mounting to the top of the center speaker and then playing my power metal tunes...

I've run several Aim dashes on steering wheels. If this particular one has the sensors internal (as opposed to a satellite sensor), that's a bit clunky. I might turn them off & use the car accels off the CAN stream.
