Hey guys, to those that have had your valve covers powdercoated…..i decided to attempt to push out my VCT and spark plug seals out of my newly purchased GT500 cam covers this morning (as i’m pretty certain they can’t survive the powdercoating process) and i chickened out. Any advice on getting them out, and still be able to reinstall? Or are they pretty much just a one and done? If so, anyone know the part numbers for new seals? (I’m sure that is googlable, just tossing it in here) Also, did you remove the PCV baffle? It appears there may be a rubber gasket of sorts under there too? Any advice would be greatly appreciated from you gentleman/ladies who’ve been through the process; dying to get these covers coated before the spring goodie install process commences. Thanks in advance to all 👍🏻

IMO assume one time use only and definitely don't leave them in for coating. I would try a heat gun low temp to soften them and use wooden spoon or rounded plastic tool to press them....have to be patient with it.

Get the prices on the seals first might be cheaper than time and risk to R&R.

Agreed. Guess i just wanted to see how others handled it, general concensus if anyone really even bothers trying to get them out and then back in, or don’t even bother trying…..hate killing brand new seals, but might just be what’s expected in order to get it done

That is why I opted for paint over powder coating. My painter was able to cover them.

Yours are painted? They look great, would have bet on those being powdercoat. I was thinking perhaps high temp paint as a second option..now perhaps even more 🤔

Yes, matched to the vehicle. The painter said heat would not be an issue. How hot does car finish get in the sun?? 2 years and no issues so far.

Haha I just watched the YouTube video where you installed these the other day @sox3 good stuff.
I have a set on the way that'll be going on with an 18+ intake and the Paxton in a couple months

Thats cool, post some pix when done.

Side question; what made you go paxton over vortech or procharger? Especially since vortech owns paxton now.

TIA, I've been toying with the idea lately.

I just finished rebuilding the entire rear end of my car (beefing up suspension & driveline) to prepare for FI in a few months. Went ahead and did some front suspension and steering while I was at it. You can find my two threads on it if interested.

But to answer your question... I had originally planned 100% to buy an ESS G3 kit. I liked several things about how it was designed. Targeting 650-700whp.
Well, a guy on here had a bunch of parts for sale, and I ended up buying a ported 18+ IM from him along with a VMP BAP.
Long story short, he had a Beefcake Special 2200SL in black that came with some goodies and the price kept getting lower and lower. At $3800 shipped, I couldn't stand it anymore.
I did a bunch of research and read the install manual a few times to see what I was getting into compared to ESS. Being a mechanical design engineer / prototype machinist, I have a few ideas for improving a couple areas of the Paxton install when I get to it but we will see. Overall, it's a proven system and I feel confident it will do everything I want and that I'll be able to install it 100% correct with no issues. So I bought it.

Upon looking at how I am going to install the 18+ IM with locked out IMRCs and the UPR dual inlet breather system, I began investigating how I was going to route my vacuum system. I knew I have been dealing with the stock 15 valve cover bolts loosening and leaking oil. Decided the $340 shipped was worth it to go with the gt500 aluminum covers, and thought doing it when I am already swapping the intake will be a good time for it.
You know how it goes. One thing leads to another until the bank account it smacked pretty hard. I'm done buying for now. A Wengerd tune (and possibly an RTD device to make logging easier over my current SCT) will be another grand when the time comes in a couple months.
Long story made long, I went with the Paxton because it saved me 2k bucks.
