I didn't. Did you?

Timing this with a stop watch, I got a 1:25.3 lap time... That's a really, really good time for Grattan. Looks like a GT305R with Electronics package.
EDIT: Watching the video twice and measuring onto the front straight where the sealer ends (shortly before the video ends) I got a 1:25.56 then a 1:25.58 on my stopwatch. I timed Gene's lap that you posted as a 1:26.31 With no passenger on new tires i'm sure the car can go quite a bit faster.

Sorry for the wording, he posted the rumor today in another thread. Not sure when it actually occurred. Either way I hope they have some pros for the event in August and can get some official times.
I wasn't beefing you on the wording...I just couldn't come up with a different way to say it.

Fastest time for NASA American Iron at Laguna Seca from last year was 1:39.
They (NASA) are actually racing there this weekend.

Again, AI cars are making about 9:1 power to weight depending on whether or not they run ABS and what chassis. So we're talking about ~3600 lb cars making 375-390 HP.
My car is tuned to make 370 and I carry about 3350. All of the S197 chassis AI cars are between 3500 and 3700 lbs.

Apparently, the 140mph+ claim was achieved with a passenger on multiple occasions. That is faster than the GT500 could even manage at Gratten.

That is just unheard of, even with FI cars, 140mph was fast at that track. 140+ in the GT350...

The ZL1 was faster at the track but couldn't touch 140. The z28 is slower in the straights too...

If it's going 140mph at Gratten, it's going 160 at Sebring and maybe 150mph at VIR.

Those are C6 Z06 speeds...

Pill, where do you suggest that this car is making time on the Porsche GT3?

Very few people on this site have been lucky enough to drive or own a 911 GT3...and i can tell you first hand...if this GT350/R can hang with a new 911 GT3 Ford has done something that 1.5 years ago...know one would believe...including me.....because you are talking one of the best engineer cars in the world...My god I can not wait to drive/own it......also include in that is the Nissan GTR...This is also one of the best cars I have ever driven (did not own it though)..:ford: :first:

I'd say the FPC V8 has a broader, stronger powerband and it has a significant torque advantage. Weight is 500lbs more but, weight has more of a penalty under standing acceleration than in motion. Yes, the consumables are being eatin' away faster too but we are only talking 1 lap time.

The 500lbs is bad but, when its rolling, it's disadvantage is more transparent with nearly 100 more torque.

It will be interesting to see if less weight or more torque will win the Laguna hill. It has always favored lighter cars, it's also apparent in the GT-R.

Gratten is a fine display for bad road handling. It is true, if it's better there it will be good all over. How bad does Gratten effect the fine tuned Porsche? Is it merely highlighting the GT3's disadvantage?

I guess the answer is no. The last few CTSC races are preludes to the American Track Tour. Further claims are being withheld until those events. I think they intend on rolling the PR and keeping attention through most of the Camaro's "Ew and Awe" period.

Higher elevations will have more of an impact on the FPC than FI. A trick Chevy used when comparing a Boss 302 to their ZL1. They went 4000 feet up, in 40 degree weather and destroyed a Boss 302LS in cold R rubber. It was their most crowning achievement.

IMO it's in the corners. The GT350R has more mechanical grip just like the Z/28 does. Regardless of the torque advantage of the R the GT3 will be faster in a straight line (but not by much) due to it's power to weight ratio and PDK. Porsche 911's have always had great acceleration for their HP rating due to weight transfer to the rear wheels. Plus nothing shifts faster than a PDK.

FWIW the S197 cars were at a major disadvantage due to their small stock tires. Put sticky 305 square tires on a S197 GT or Boss and it quickly evens out the playing field with many much more expensive cars.

GTR, GT3 RS (997), 458 Italia are in that realm. We shall have to see if it actually is true, but not entirely unreasonable since the Z/28 is in the 1:37.XX range.

:fullbenchracer:
I don't even see the z28 listed.

Thanks, I thought everyone was talking Grattan Raceway as that is the video posted. I have not heard of any official times at LS.
