I am getting ready to pull the plug on finally tuning my 2019 GT w/ A10. I had questions about the tuning of the drive modes. Do the more popular tuning companies automatically make adjustments to the different drive modes when providing a bolt-on only tune or is it something I have to specifically request.

More specifically, what I am wanting to know is, can I ask to have the NORMAL drive mode to have the throttle response of SPORT+ but without the rpm hang and sometimes obnoxious rev-match downshifts???

For the sake of further discussion and learning, could I get the long answer?

Edit* the below may require hptuners Nguage. not sure if other tuning software or devices can do it. And its kind of unrelated to your question.

Tuners can make drive mode hold the gear you downshift to longer with the paddles too, for roll racing. If you notice right now if you downshift with paddles in drive mode it loses that gear in about 3 seconds if you dont go full throttle. I had PBD change mine to hold the gear i downshift to for 35 seconds for roll racing and it still automatically upshifts at your shift point. It also still automatically downshifts if you go full throttle in a gear that isnt ideal for full throttle unlike when the paddles are activated with the shifter in S. Pretty nice setup. I dont think they changed my throttle response in normal drive but I dont mind that. For roll racing, I put it in dragstrip mode with it in drive then get into the gear I want to start in for w/e mph we are at . I paddle shift in sport mode like 99% of the time with the shifter in S usually though for normal driving. Racing with the shifter in sport with paddles activated is fine too but may not be as consistent but with an 8200 rev limiter there is very little chance of accidentally hitting the limiter. I love using the paddles for most driving especially anywhere with corners.

I would think they could easily change the throttle response in drive but I am not 100% sure. I think if they change shift pressure it affects all modes though so maybe it would change the response in all modes. Youd have to ask your tuner or hopefully that guy above elaborates some more. This seems to be the most tunable car I know of though.

Thanks for the response.

As an update, I placed my order this morning with PBD and got the Ngauge and their custom tuning. I paid the extra to have both a 93 and E85 tune. Just got the shipping notice too. Damn, they are quick!

ok so more or less without having HPtuners up right now, essentially that throttle response you are referring to is in the Driver Demand tables. There are different tables for the different modes. Essentially, in sport + it is telling the car to open the throttle more for a given amount of pedal input compared to normal mode. There are other factors, such as torque limiting and what not that are different as well but I would assume that they modify those for every tune regardless. The transmission functions are in their own separate tables.

Bottom line, since you have purchased a tune is to discuss the how you want it to feel with the tuner when you do your back and forth with datalogs.
