My understanding of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is that the mod you have on the car has to be directly attributable to the warranty problem you're claiming. That is, just because you have an aftermarket exhaust wouldn't absolve Ford from a transmission problem, for example. Is this correct?
That isn't how the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act works.

The M-MWA, when referring to "aftermarket parts" is saying, you can't be denied a warranty because you're running a OE spec replacement wix air filter on your car instead of buying a motorcraft. They can't say your engine died because you ran Mobil 1 5W20 instead of Motorcraft Syn Blend 5W20. They can still say your MT-82 died because you have a whipple 2.9 and your rear tires are bald.

Now, if it was a case of, someone runs a car on a stock tune with headers + a full exhaust while running 87 octane and burns a hole in piston # 8 from running lean, Ford can absolutely pin that on your aftermarket parts.

In my experiences an axle-back or cat-back exhaust won't raise any concerns. You start messing with emissions items like o2 sensors, headers etc and you likely would run into problems. Big part will come down to the particular dealer/manufacturer. Like the gentleman above stated, if the service adviser words it in a friendly way, no one blinks an eye. You keep blowing rear ends drag racing and they will start to take notice. Like anything in life, a little common sense goes a long way.

There's no irony, I was stating that because of my line of work I've been heavily trained in ethics, accountability and maintaining trust. I was commenting that the government expects us to adhere to that through training but the government itself does not hold itself to the same standards.
Pretty sure any line of business expects this from their employees. It's not like everyone who works in the government sector follows these guidelines either, so I'm not sure why that even matters.

Completely agree, since wouldn't that be a mod that attributed to the problem? Conversely, headers and full exhaust wouldn't be a good enough reason to deny a warranty claim for, say, a brake master cylinder going bad, would it?

No and that's a great example. That goes for other things as well like you put a catback exhaust on and your AC goes out.

The better question is why is this being seized upon to make pedantic, off-topic points about?

... He jumps in it and before he starts it up he asks, ''you don't have a tune on this thing, do you?" ... Why would he ask me this on just an inspection? Did they check for a tune and possibly not have said anything and justed 'noted' it on my permanent record? Should I be concerned at all?
TIA
If the guy just said "Do you have a tune?", that would've been a question made out of curiosity.

But saying "You don't have a tune on this thing, do you?" is a clear indication to me he was personally concerned in the negative. Now that doesn't mean the dealer actually checked for it.

This is why I don't tune my cars, not worth the worries ...
