A $1600 dollar half shaft upgrade that most can do by themselves is not expensive. A $7000 whipplecharger upgrade with another $1500 plus in labor charges is expensive. Do people really think putting a $50 K and N filter in and putting slick on the car will make you a terror on the track?

Junk in the sense that previous years of Mustangs could handle a lot stickier tires and high RPM launches without problem and now the latest Mustang is much more fragile.

Many people were worried about this and now we see it happened. IRS is a compromise just like any other design decision.

I bought wider rear rims for my 2011 and sticky summer tires so I could accelerate better (on the street). I'm not sure whether it's a good idea on the 2015, and that's crummy IMO.
Previous year cars were stick axles. The 03/04 Cobras were pretty stout on the stock half shafts. The '15 is geared towards the road racing/corner carver mindset (at least that is my opinion). The stock half shaft will suffice and likely live a long life in those environments.

I ran 305's on my 03 Cobra for 5years on the street for 40k miles and had zero issues. I even ran drag radials when I went to the strip and ran low, low 12's. 1.8x 60's so I wasn't leaving hard. No half shaft issues the either.

BAMA ran a 2015 Mustang GT to 11.2 at 121. I'd say that's pretty fast. $1700 on half shafts is a significant percentage of the cost of a big power adder.

These were the mods:
1. Full Exhaust System
– Custom 1 7/8″ Long Tube Headers
– O/R X Pipe
– Race Bullet Mufflers
2. JLT Cold Air Intake (Stock Intake Manifold)
3. Suspension Upgrades
– Custom Fabricated Suspension Parts (will disclose at a later date)
– Stock Half Shafts
– Stock Bushings
4. Minor Weight Reduction
– Removed Passenger Seat And Rear Seat
– Race Weight: 3,650 With Half Tank Of Fuel And Driver
5. Slicks and Skinnies
– 17″ Weld RTS With Mickey Thompson Front Runners
– Hoosier Drag Slicks
6. Bama Performance X4 With 93 Track Tune

So maybe the stock half shafts really aren't that bad?

Long Tube Headers = 1300
Cold Air Intake = 800 with x4 tune
Racing Slicks with rims and skinnies = 1000
x tube = 300

Total = 3400

Hack you are talking about $3400 dollars in parts alone for the upgrade without knowing what suspension upgrades were made which could easily reach another $1000 dollars. A person spending that kind of money would not cry over spending another $1700 dollars for half shafts. Even if you add all of these items together it would be cheaper than buying a whipple charger and that would be for just the parts kit alone and not labor. A 1700 dollar halfshaft upgrade is not an expensive upgrade. A 7000 plus whipple charger upgrade is an expensive upgrade.

If you guys really want to do serious drag racing I am sure they will come out with a conversion kit to go back to a solid rear axle. Drag race amateurs and people who just want to play around with drag racing will be fine with the half shaft upgrade.

Aren't these 1700 dollar half shafts from Ford Racing?
If so, the aftermarket should have them at half that price before long.

People with the terminator Cobras just upgraded their half shafts or converted to a solid rear axle. Why is this now becoming a complaint? People cried for a GT with independent rear suspension and halfshafts are part of the deal.

Some other people like me always wanted it to stay solid axle to keep the cost down. I think mostly the uppity car mags wanted IRS. I think Ford did a pretty good job though. The car is a lot more comfortable, and the handling is improved even with so much added comfort.
