Honestly the more I think about it the more I'm convinced there's a programming issue. I am OK with 'AC off' meaning it simply stays off entirely, but when I have 'AC on' it never deactivates the AC. It defeats the purpose of automatic climate control when I have to toggle the AC button every 5 minutes because the vents can't just 'deal' with near ambient temperatures in the cabin, it blasts AC or heat unless you turn the AC off.

I didn't even think about it this weekend, was out driving around a lot but now that I'm thinking back it's starting to bother me that I kept having to fiddle with the damn thing in the first place.
That is strange. I am going to have to give my AC a try.

I am pretty sure that in my 135i it Auto would turn AC on if needed, but I don't think it turned it off - which was fine, as it would still heat fine.

On a trip I took to GA in November of 2014, the AC did come on occasionally to cool off the interior. A couple of times I had to turn it off.

It does work very well.

This question for those who have an Auto function that works. So the A/C light turns on by itself when auto mode engages the A/C to cool?

I played around with it today - AC button has to be on. That said, when the temp was bumped up could tell the compressor kicked off even though the light was still lit.

I always just keep AC on and in auto.

Had a freakishly warm day here for these parts and my A/C actually kicked in. AC light was not on initially, part way through the drive, AC light turned on by itself and cool air started blowing out of dash vents. After a bit, AC light turned off and air started coming out mainly from floor vents.

Cycled like this a couple times on the trip. So, Auto works as I would have expected. Not sure why AC isn't turning on automatically for some of you.

Thanks for the confirmation of how it's supposed to work. I'll take mine to the dealer.

My perception is that when I am in full Auto mode, it will turn on the AC when it needs it, but then it leaves the AC on and blends warmer air for heat. I have never seen the system turn the AC off. So in the mild weather we are having this winter, I manually turn AC off and am pretty happy. Right up until I need the defroster, and then have to turn on the AC again. Not perfect, but by far the best "automatic" temperature control I have ever had in a car.

Mine definitely turns AC off after turning it on. Wonder what is up with all these different behaviors.

Mine turns it off if it's cold enough. It turns it on if it's cold but thinks the windows may frost up. It looks at a lot of things. To this day I haven't used my front defroster (saying a lot in early mornings in south Louisiana). It's figured it out and ran it for me.

I stay comfy so I don't worry about it.
