2020 PP1 so I have two gauges and two round vents in the center of the dash. One of the vents is broken and needs to be replaced. I have watched videos where pliers are used and the vent is just pulled out through the dash and the new one pushed back in and I have watched videos where the dash has had to come off, the gauges disconnected and the vent pushed out from behind. I would really like to be able to just grab it with a pair of pliers and pull it out, has anyone done this successfully?

If it's already broken what is there to lose in trying? If it doesn't work then fall back the dash disassembly option.

Removing the trim panel is not real difficult. A little umph and it's off.

I removed 2 vents to replace them with GlowShift gauges. Unfortunately I broke a couple vent retainer tabs. Also, try to not lose lose the trim panel engagement clips. I had to detach the glove box to retrieve one the first time I removed the panel. I since learned my lesson....and...purchased replacement clips off Amazon as those clips are used many other places around the car interior.

UPDATE: the vent pulled out very easily with a pair of pliers & popped right back in easily. Because the foam on the vent is new it is not packed down so it pushes the vent out a little bit. I did take the trim panel off to get in from behind but it makes no difference, it's just a matter of the foam seating itself properly over time. Either way, the vent came out easily with a pair of pliers and the trim panel was also easy to take off and replace. Thanks all!

It's funny you mentioned the trim panel engagement clips. I bought the car in October and before I parked it for the winter I changed the cabin air filter. When I took the cover off for the cabin air filter this little white clip fell out that I had no idea what it was for. When I took the end of the dash off so I could get at that trim panel I found out where that little white piece went. Now all I have to do is try and get this old brain to remember where the heck I put it. Fingers crossed it somewhere in the glove box.
