So I'm going to be breaking close to the 800hp range and I've got a torque converter I've been procrastinating to put on. I figured while I have my tranny out I'll go ahead and throw some money at it before things start breaking.
My question to you guys is how much there is still stock and how well have you survived? Is it worth upgrading things like flywheel and shaft?

Might as well throw in the discussion of best parts brand to upgrade as well

Im at 830rwhp and at the track mine seems to be slipping shifting into 2nd just a bit. it doesnt do it on lower boost settings or on the street (wheel spin).

I want to add a transbrake so im looking at the same questions. I definitely want to do shaft/friction rings. I just cant decide if I need a billet planetary or not.

Getting mine built now. I went with an exedy stage2 kit, heavy duty clutches and steels with %40 more clutch surface area for holding 1000 hp. Also got the billet input shaft as well ..after 2 years of punishment my stock trans started giving in..its a smart investment for boosted cars!!! I didnt get the billet planetary because its $1400. I just got a Brand new stock one..

Wondering what hp people start snapping their shafts. From what I've heard it's all over the board from 550 to over 800, it's a pretty wide range seems like

Update i went to my tuners shop today-to get an update on my build. The car has been there for 5 weeks. The long time comes from the turn around times for the converter and the transmission being sent out. The Tranny was sent to Brett LaSala in Florida for the exedy stage2 with billet shaft build. I confirmed my freshly built trans was shipped last Friday and will be back to the shop this Wednesday. While i was there talking to my tuner, & my refurbished FTI 3200 stall speed arrived today at his shop UPS. I got to look at the workmanship today.. so I’m close, next week and I’ll be on the road .. I’m salivating.. lol, I really missed my car all this time..

This is what Brett Lasala does when he builds a 6r80 transmission:

Replacement of all clutches and steels with high performance Exedy stage 2 parts. These clutch packs offer 40% more friction surface than stock.
Replacement of the stock intermediate shaft with a Billet replacement.
A full disassembly and cleaning of the gearbox.
Visual inspection of all internal components gears, drums and bearings.
Air test all shift elements.
Cleaning of the electro-hydraulic valve body.
Clutch pack heights and clearance will be
set to specification.
Tail shaft end play and input shaft end float
will be checked and adjusted.
Replacement of the oil filter, pump seal
and oil transfer tubes.
During the build, if any parts fail testing or inspection, you will be notified with an additional estimate to replace failed parts.

I'm probably going to build my 6R80 over the winter and add a circle d convertor. I'm wondering if this is something a local transmission shop can build, or if there are "tricks" and I should ship it to Brett Lasala? I'll pull the transmission myself, but I'd prefer to avoid shipping it if this is something a local shop can handle.

My car is a 2016 with the Hellion sleeper kit, 18 intake manifold, fore triple pump return fuel system, ID 1300's running on E85. Right now I'm just running on wastegate springs, but I just ordered a boostleash to crank it up.

You dont want some local joe blow that returns a stock transmission back to oem specs. You want a guy thats been in the 7’s in quarter mile with the 6r80 to build your tranny. Don’t settle on convenience, settle on the performance advantage. Go with Brett LaSala he knows the 6r80 better then most..

While you have it out, at least put clutches in it. Intermediate shaft would be a good idea too. Billet planetary if you want it to be bulletproof.

Hey guys I know I'm late to the party but I need a little advice on my 6R80 replacement journey.. I don't have all the money in the world to spend on a new stage 3 6R80 nor do I need 1000+hp rating but I would like the transmission to be able to handle 600whp reliably. I was told by a friend I have in the local car community that these guys have a good remanufactured 6R80 transmission here, https://reman-transmission.com/transmission-codes/?code=6R80 and I certainly like the price. My question is, given that I need it to handle 600whp reliably, do you all think a remanufactured 6R80 can handle that?

Why would you pay 2500 for a stock trans when someone like bret lasala can do clutches/steels and intermediate shaft into yours for 1700??

That sounds like a better deal for sure. Where is he located? And what is the typical turn around time?
