Why does the d@mn thing shift into 5th and 6th so fast? I'm in 5th at 35mph and 6th by 40. Horrible. And no one can tune it to my liking. Should shift into 6th no earlier than 2000 rpm or 54mph in 6th

Short answer, because whoever programmed that gearbox cared more about polar bears than about you.
The good news is, shift points (and many other things for that matter) can be tuned.

I had the 6R80 in my last car. Be thankful you don't have the 10R80 it short shifts into higher gears even sooner (sure, the ratios are smaller...and it will often skip a gear but I digress) which is insanely frustrating.

Wish I had the 6R80 back.

That's the sad truth. The more gear ratios an automatic transmission has, the better it is on a drag strip, and the more annoying and frustrating it is on the street.
