So I just saw the "new" recall on the F150s for the 6R80 transmissions. Yuck. Doesn't apply to our cars but ... maybe it should. Anyway ... after searching the web I found that there are some who recommend changing the fluid & filter at 30K miles and then every 60K miles instead of at the Ford recommended 150K miles. Since my car now has 66K miles on it should I start performing fluid & filter changes every 60K miles?

What's the general consensus regarding fluid/filter changes for the 6R80?

No problems with my transmission so far. Very pleased about that. Overall I've found the trans to perform well and has been reliable so far. I'd like to keep it that way.

Thanks everyone.

Old crap Oil and particles in that oil is what stuffs Gearboxes and Solenoids. Changing oil and filter is cheap And it’s a very easy
If you just drop the pan and drain it this method will drain 90% of the old oil as there will be some left in torque converter.
a full flush at a mechanics will get 100%.

my 6r80 has 50k and I do the first method and it’s been done twice. It gets driven hard so I drop it the same time I’m doing oil. It’s a 20min job.

I’m at 63k miles and have dropped the pan twice. Both times the fluid looked good. I used Valvoline Maxlife ATF, trans shifts great.
It is an easy job, except for the stupid little dipstick being an inch away from the cat.

The 6 speed auto transmission is a good transmission but every 30K miles is best. That is what I always recommend. Even every 40-60k miles if you really want to extend the interval; but that 150k mile is a terrible idea.

Why would they recommend that...
After 150k miles with that dirty fluid in the transmission, it is likely the dirty fluid that should have been changed before 60k, 70k, 80k miles will add to wearing out the transmission... oh look at that! Your powertrain warranty is expired too either due to mileage or age once you get to 150k. Lets sell you a new transmission! 🤡

Stick with preemptive maintenance.
