Just did my 4th Oil Change on the Bullitt. I've been using the Ford Performance (802) Filter, and various oils all 5W30.
OC 1 - 2000 miles Jan 21 w/ Ford Spec Semi Synthetic (50% oil life)
OC 2 - 7000 miles July 21 w/ Ford Spec Semi Synthetic (40% oil life)
OC 3 - 11000 miles Nov 21 w/ Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic (40% oil life)
OC 4 - 17125 miles Aug 22 w/ Valvoline EXT PERF Full Synthetic (20% oil life)

By FAR, the Valvoline is the best oil for my motor. The motor was immediately smoother, virtually ZERO 3K clatter from the VVT, and NO BBQ tic. I will say that I did NOT like the look of the *Pennzoil as it came out. Seemed watery, and had an odd sheen and look to it. I was never happy with how the motor sounded with it.

As for how much blow by in the FORD Performance Catch can, there was maybe 4 tablespoons, and I realized I forgot to check it at the 11K change, so that was how much it caught from 7K to 17K.

The Magnetic/Billet drain plug had VERY LITTLE metallic paste.

OK, time for a Sunday Romp!

Minimal blow by, between 7K & 17K Healthy motor!

I always date the oil filter and take a pic, need to start putting mileage too, but I always remember after installing..... lol

Minimal spooge.

I noticed these terminated plugs up by the front frame, near the downpipes. One on both sides, anyone know what these are for?

Thats really weird. Let me check some of my pics, could be a magneride level sensor hookup.

So, I’m confused. Which oil did you not like?

Yeah man, Im 95 percent sure thats the connection for magneride level sensors.

I combed through my build thread, and despite all my work in those areas, I dont have a full pic of the sender itself, lmfao!!!

This tells the story some.

Yeah, early AM fog. Meant to say Pennzoil. I fixed it.

That makes sense. easier to have one wiring harness on the car. I wish that the MR was independently adjustable and selectable from the drive modes like the steering and exhaust. If it was, I would have bought a car with the MR.

Well it is for your My setting. But besides one mode, yeah kinda lame. My custom mode is track steering, track dampening, and sport exhaust. Cause my full 3" catless, twin x pipe, 1 7/8" ARH, Borla Atak is deafening, lmfao!

II haven't even picked up my Mach1 yet, but I bought 3 jugs of Valvoline for when we get home, after 2000 miles. I've had excellent results with Valvoline Full Syn. since they started making it.

I use Amsoil 5w30 synthetic and have noticed it burns much less than the Ford 5w20 I originally had in the car. I too usually have about a 1/4 of a shot glass of oil in my JLT catch can every oil change.

Good info and data being you have used a few different oils during the short life of your car.

That said, what you have is certainly subjective (car runs "smoother" -- no way to measure that).

I would suggest you buy a oil filter opener and inspect for metal on every oil change. That way you will have a better way to measure what is going on.

Obviously sending a sample off for analysis is the best choice, but im too impatient for that.

BTW, the Pennzoil you used is not what is recommended on here. You should find some "Ultra Platinum" and see if you like it. Many people do.

I believe the only difference between PP and PUP is longer OCI. A few tests have shown standard PP to have the same or better wear prevention than PUP, but we all know it’s probably hard to justify from these tests.

As for someone saying they “feel” their engine runs smoother from different oils of the same viscosity, yeah almost impossible.

Yeah I hear you, but there is a clear difference in sound and feel. It's not uncommon for fresh oil to bring an immediate change, quieter motor, smoother idle etc. The Valvoline is the first that I've noticed an immediate change. On all the other changes there was virtually no noticeable difference. Also, I found with every other oil change that the BBQ tick was present on the fresh oil, not so far with the Valvoline.

As has been stated frequently on many forms including Bob is the oil guy, frequent oil changes are the most important aspect of long-term healthy engine life. For now, I'm content with the 5K oil change interval when using synthetic oil. For my use, this generally equates to a 9-month oci.
