Hey guys,

Any suggestions on removing 3M glue from a FRPP decklid? Experimenting with something and going to completely avoid using 3M glue going forward with this and just stick with the double sided tape.

This is the only area that contains 3M glue. I've tried Goo Gone (and letting it sit for like 10+ minutes), using an iron to heat the area and hopefully soften and melt the 3M glue (probably a bad idea, I know), and it's still very hard on there.

Here's what it looks like:

I can't even peel it with my fingernails because it's so stuck on there and hard. Should I continue using the iron to hopefully try heating the area? At this point, I'm almost feeling like I need to buy another decklid.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Might be cheaper to take it to a body shop and just have them paint it. You'd at least get a more durable finish.

My only suggestion is possibly heat it up with a heat gun.

I'm sure there's some solvent that will remove it easily, but it would likely damage the finish in the process.

Thanks man! Gonna swing by pep boys in the AM and grab a heat gun, hoping it does the trick without melting the area of the decklid.

Just keep the heat gun on low and keep the heat gun moving. Keeping it concentrated in one spot is what'll cause stuff to melt.

WD40 works better then Goo Gone. Might want to give it a try. Let it sit for a minute or two then massage it in with your fingers.

I ended up using the heat gun on the lowest setting and gradually back and forth for awhile while periodically trying to scrape the glue off. The glue wouldn't come off, even when the plastic started bending a little because of the heat.

Ended up having to order another FRPP decklid, unfortunately. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Damn, wish I saw this earlier.

Next time use Rapid Tac Rapid Removal. It's amazing! Removed residue from 3M wrap from entire car in about an hour.
Thanks man and will do!
